it saddens me that there are people willing to pay this much money for a few fps improvements.

There is nothing to be sad about...its pumping much needed money into our weak economy.

good point, but that doesn't mean you aren't INSANE if you pay that much for a video card :)

no it's not, mr economics guru, it's just taking money that would have probably be spent on other products, and putting it into the retailer bank account, and that is less likely to be spent.

yeah, because companies never spend the money they make doing things like expanding their markets, hiring new employees, opening new stores, etc. Nope...they just get all that money..and sit on it :)

At least 6800 Ultras were eventually available at MSRP towards the tail end of their lifespan.
Ditto that. ATI really screwed the pooch on their X800XT's. I was leaning toward that card but since they never arrived I got a 6800GT. Now I've got an SLI capable setup so ATI not only lost me as a customer for my previous graphics card purchase they'll not get my business on my next one either.

This is retarded. Buying things at MSRP is already stupid enough, but buying things at this gouged price is just ridiculous....

benchmarks are meh. It's all about the engines again. If you're betting on Doom 3 engine, get 6800. Betting on HL2 engine, get ATI.

Just a thought.

True, but benchmarks show that the 850XT PE beats two 6800 GT's.

Uh, link please? And make it a real world situation link and not some 640x480 no eye candy game we never heard of.
