X850xt pe availability

So it seems I didn't get a computer this christmas but rather, almost a voucher for one in january. I had the x800xt in my sights, but now I figure the x850xt pe for $50 more is not that much more. From the reviews it sounds like an excellent overclocker. (One review had this card at an astounding 621/621!!!!!) I have everything sorted and listed but I am wondering as to where I might be able to at least order an x850xt PE. I have no preferred manufacturer.

Can anyone help me out?

Every place I've seen has it on backorder, with no definitive arrival date, going for $650 and up.

I think late January would be the absolute earliest to expect them, and supplies will continue to be scarce after that. That will help prices stay well above MSRP.

Iam........

If you give up on finding an X850 NOW! ( they're on ebay, or at some dealers for $1000 ), and want to wait for supply......ShopBLT.com is taking orders for $472.01.

They have 150 on order, 90 with ETA's of 1-7-2005 or 1-8-2005, and 102 orders. No ETA's on remainding 60 cards. Of course with everything PCI-E, ETA's mean approximately spit.

If you want to get in line, follow the link and search for X850.

Good luck😎

Is it a waste of cash? Or is it worth 650?

X850XT Plat is to have from $449 up online, pre-order tho. ETA is Dec 31 or Jan 1.

I have no idea where you shop..but if you REALLY wanna spend $650 for the same card then go ahead.
And yes, google/froogle etc. is your friend.

And, IATS, yes...the X850XT Platinum is CHEAPER than the X800XT.. (not MORE like you say)...besides that the X800XT is not manufactured anymore and approx. as rare as..well dunno....anyway its pointless since the X850XT PE is faster anyway.

Yes, there are quite a few places that have the X850XT PE on pre-order for $450 - $500, but none of them are major sellers. There is only one seller in that group that I would trust enough to buy from.

At these same places, they're often selling X800 Pros for more than the X850XTs. ??? Yet all the major retailers are setting prices above MSRP. ???

At any rate, I'll believe it when I see it.

lol good luck with another ATI paper launch

If this card is going as be as hard to find as the X800XT PE, then your in for a headache.

Flexy- why not mention of the X850XT PE's Dustbuster status? People should have the real scoop on the card, don't you think?

As an ex-5800U owner, I've heard this before!
If the fan has to spin all the way up, you may get the feeling you've got a Civic with an aftermarket exhaust racing around in your box.

They say it's quiet under normal load, but how about a hot day or OC?

I'll stick with my X800 XT PE, thank you.

You do that. For a mere $50 youll get a card with excellent overclocking potential and performance. It is no different than with other cards or CPU heatsinks for that matter. Performance OR silence.

omg is ati mentally retarded? do they realize they if they cant MAKE any cards, they cant make any MONEY?!?!
jeez...im sticking with nvidia until ati cleans up theyre act

You may have better chance if you called ATI and ask for a "review" sample (add a few sentences of ATI praising while you at it too).

Wow for a mere $50, eh? Sign me up for the $50 video cards!

i just read a LOT reviews - and *everyone* says the card's fan will spin like crazy at boot-up - but will be quite silent even under heavy gaming and benchmarking.

Noise will not be an issue. Read the reviews at the usual sites.

Also...i dont understand people complaining about the dual-slot cooler. Thats nonsense since i have an Arctic Silencer on my old 9800 Pro (which uses a second slot) and MANY enthusiasts (funny word 🙂 ) use Arctic Silencers and use up a second slot. And now all of a sudden people complain since a cooler similiar to the the silencer is actually included 🙂 Probably the same people who would get this card and put a silencer/2 slot cooler on it afterwards.....

My ONLY concern with this card is the ENORMOUS power draw it will have......up to a max. 289 Watts (!!!) i've seen some charts...others talk about 270/280 watts....thats insane 🙂

I use a Silencer on my XT PE myself, and have never cared about Dustbusting. Will be interesting to see once these are in consumer hands though if the fan ever spins up outside boot.

Also, it's interesting that the same ATI fans who complained about dual slot, high power, heat concerns on the last two generations of nVidia products are strangely silent now that ATI has adopted the same strategy.

I've certainly never had a problem with dual-slot cooling. VGA Silencers etc. use them, and they are quite popular. I see it as an advantage, taking the hot air outside of the case instead of recycling it. And who would keep a PCI card right next to their hot video card and obstruct airflow anyway?

When nVidia released the dustbuster 5800U, it was the only graphics card on the market with a dual-slot deafeningly loud cooling solution. Now that such coolers are becoming more widespread, it's hard to hold it against ATI. If they don't cool their cards as well as nVidia does, they will not be able to compete in the high-end sector. The R300 was a special case where ATI went with 0.15um instead of 0.13um and they were able to get by with a smaller cooler because they had more surface area to work with and a lower clocked core than the competition. Not only that, but nVidia released NV30 well AFTER R300 with an INFERIOR cooling solution and feature set. That's right about when you bought one and sat your R300 on a shelf to collect dust. 😕

As a consumer I take everything into consideration before I buy something, and heat/noise are two critical areas for me. Losing a slot would also irritate me, as I currently have all of mine filled.

Honestly Rollo, your statement is hypocritical given your recent stances on PS2.0 with R300 and PS3.0 on NV40. You expect people to bash ATI for doing the same thing nVidia is doing? Maybe we should all get together and complain...then nobody could say anyone was biased for silly stuff like this.

How's it hypocritical SickBeast?

I said I have never minded the dustbusting, which I haven't?

I noted that ATI has gone to a dual slot, loud at times, hot, huge HSF on a card that consumes a ton of power, something ATI fans have been criticizing for two years with nVidia now. There is irony there, I merely note it.

I'd buy an X850XT PE without thinking twice, but do you disagree these very traits have been used as arguments not to buy 5800U/5900U/6800U a million times over? I can provide links? It's interesting that now ATI has adopted the same strategy for it's flagship card these arguments are forgotten and it's all "Hooray for the X850 XT PE!".

As far as my stance on PS2 and PS3 goes:
A. When my stance on PS2 was "who cares?" there weren't any PS2 games except TRAOD. It took a year for there to be PS2 games that really showed nV3X s shader deficiencies. There still arent many, 1.5 years later.
B. You'll note I use a PS2 card these days? (not PS3)
C. There are four games out that are supposed to be PS3 (sooner or later) Far Cry, Vampire, LOTR, Painkiller, with more on the way within the next year. (so it's different situation, and if the performance is similar, better to have it than not)

I don't think there's anything too biased about noting what used to be ATI fan's primary argument is now conveniently forgotten.

Well, my alienware should arrive soon with an x850xt PE in it. Shortly after I purchased it, they stopped offering them at alienware though. I did notice it was cheaper than what they sell x800xt's for. And now you can't even get one of those unless you pay almost twice as much as I did.

Fair enough, but it was not long ago when you were saying that PS3 had the supa and PS2 was teh suck. 😉

The NV30 was plagued with numerous issues, one of which was the cooling solution. Of couse the review sites were gonna point it out, it was probably the first thing they noticed about the card.

I see your irony. However, I also find some of the things you say ironic. Take that for what it's worth. 🙂
