X850 XT PE $149.99 No Rebate

your title didnt say PE (platinum edition) so wasnt sure...
but for a PE- yeah thats good! (that is unless you want shader model 3.0 capability- which older generation ATI, like this, doesnt have)
EDIT- thanks for adding PE to the title 🙂

the gen for sm3.0 IS here. Dont convince yourself future games wont take advantage of its potentials, they already are.

Too bad none of the midrange cards are powerful enough to use such features without being reduced to a clip show. Oh well.

im pretty sure the 7600gt is fast enough to use some of the sm3.0 features

not true at all. My x1600Pro does SM3 HDR + Ultra settings in Obvlivion at 20-35Frames per sec outdoors in Oblivion.

not really. The 1600pro only has 128bit memory and 12pipelines.
x850XT has 256bit memory and 16pipes
My x1600pro is the Sapphire overclocked edition thats equivilent to a 1600XT and is $109+shipping, but a $20 rebate at newegg. I got mine on a one day sale for a steal at $79.95+sh last week or so.

yes - if you are referring to your very short and unclear previous post (-x1600pro diff from x850's re SM3 HDR I think -), you may want to rewrite it so it conveys the meaning you intended.
What I got from it was that according to you, you thought the only difference was SM3 support.

Sorry late in the day. Just saying I dont think a x1600 is comparible as it gives much better performance on Oblivian than the x850 xt pe will give.

I just dont see them as comparable on that front.

uh... yeah dude- I think you missed where I quoted the other guys response and was making my comments directed at his comment that midrange cards couldnt handle sm3. I was using the x1600pro as an example of a midrange card that could.
I wasn't comparing the x1600pro to the x850PE, you did. 🙂

HAHAHA
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
OMG dude- go back to bed. ROFL!
I never even said the x850XT PE WAS A MIDRANGE CARD so what are you talking about?
The only opinion I have about midrange cards is that the x1600pro IS ONE (and it runs sm3 at acceptable frames per sec)). THATS IT. LOL!

EXACTLY- THANK YOU!
this Evan dude totally is confused. The x1600pro was only brought up by me as a response to Sonikku's side comment. it isnt directly related to the x850XT PE post at all...
I NEVER tried to compare them. ANd I only listed the spec differences in response to Evans poorly written incomplete thought of a post (EvanAdams said: x1600pro diff from x850's re SM3 HDR I think )
I think its time to get back on topic. GEEZ!

yea god forbid a post should be at all related to the post.

someone (Sonikku) made a false/unsubstantiated and misleading comment about midrange cards not being able to run sm3 stuff at anything more than a "clip show". I wasn't going to allow that misinformation to be spread. Its not my fault you went off on a confused tangent.
Next time stay out of it . It will save forum bandwidth. If it wasn't for you, my comments would have ended with that partially off-topic (YET NECESSARY) corrective example half a page ago.
2nd try- BACK on topic please! for the love of forum reading comprehension!
(ps- and I said DIRECTLY related- there are various forms of related- as in my post wasnt directly related to the post of the deal, but it was related to a comment someone else made in this thread.)

Wow, amazing price. I think my work paid something like $500 for one of these for me 18 months ago. Awesome card - plays UT2K4 at 1920x1200 with all features very smoothly, and halflife2 at 1920x1200 with most stuff turned up high.

So what it comes down too is that this is a great deal? Right?

If $40 is worth a 3% increase in performance, then yeah. I think you'd be better of paying $130 for the XT and losing a frame or two per second max......
