x850 OC job

Ok heres something I was wanting to ask, maybe someone knows. I am familar with CPU OCing, and have no problem producing, however with my x850 i was able to do this

Mem Speed:621mhz
Core: 594mhz

This is via ATI's overdrive test....now when I run 3dmark, i get exactly 1000 (yes ONE THOUSAND) LESS with these speeds....what aspect of OCing drops the performance when the speeds are increased? Just wondering...

If you go too high, or on the edge of stability, you lose performance sometimes..

Back it down..

Run ATI tool, that is pretty solid at getting a good OC.

Also, download and run rthdribl, it's very sensitive to errors and will show artifacts when you OC too much, even before AtiTool will detect any.

thanks guys, is this tool just for monitoring then? So I OC with the ATI Overdrive manually and then detect with this other program?
Thanks!

Well, my X850XT PE at 640/610(1220) scored 7500 in 3DMark05 so a X850 clocked at 600/700 should be able to beat a 7800GT which generally score ~6800-7000.

Disclaimer: A slew of real-world benchmarks would be ideal but 3DMark05 will give a fairly accurate picture of how a graphics card will perform.

Oh, and nice job OP. If you can get your card stable at that speed than that is very good. I could only get mine stable at 600/600 on air.

7500??? damm my old OCed 850XTPE at 610/600 would reach about 6600-6700 on a 4000+. how the heck did u reach 7.5k?
even at those speeds i still doubt it would be able to beat a GT especially at ultra high resolutions above 16x12 where the GT shines.

what coolers are you guys using so you can run at those clock speeds, mine runs at high speeds, but i assume it just overheats like an animal
