Hello,

I have red x850 Pro 256MB card - P/N 102A4750501 made in china also on fron PN 109-A47501-00 not sure if is a Sapphire or a ATI card. The memory is Samsung 504 K4J553230F-GC16. It displays the BIOS screen but goes black immediately when going to XP Media or Vista. It does display Windows XP Pro SP2 no problem though. This unit will start the install of either of the other two but will go black very quickly. Not sure if there is a firmware update I can get or a work around short of using the VGA adapter (my monitor only has DVI input and the VGA to DVI converter doesn't work for some reason).

Thanks

I tried using a CRT on VGA - this issue continues - it goes black almost immediately when starting the install of the OS. Works fine with XP - just not 2005 or vista. Tried using another AGP card (nvidia) that worked on install, performed all updates and switched out to the x850 and it goes black immediately after posting bios info.

I called ATI and they won't bother assisting, they said they haven't gotten enough complaints so ship back my card, they'll send me a replacement and we'll see what happens. I've already got confirmation in another forum that another user has the same results so I'm pretty sure it is a card bios/design issue.

Too bad they couldn't get off their fat ass and actually take 2 minutes to change out a card on an agp system running Vista!

Try searching for a program called "DVI_recover.zip".

Try that out. This problem happened to me with my X1900XTX. I dont know if it will resolve the problem as my card worked fine on a CRT through VGA, but it sounds as if MCE2005 and Vista are trying to set a resolution and/or refresh rate that the monitor cant handle.

Good luck.
