the r480 core is used in the x850 pro, xt, and xt/peOriginally posted by: WhipperSnapper
It's tempting and I've been keeping track of that development. But so far no one has actually done it with one of the AGP cards. Presumably the Sapphire X800 GTO2 in AGP uses the R480 core.
well, it will according to someone over @ rage.. i'm trying to confirm now tho...Will those very same Bios's and flashing techniques for the PCI-E cards work for the AGP version?.

I too am wrestling with this question because I'm looking for a card for a very powerful, relatively new system that uses AGP, so this would be the "final upgrade" for the system unless ATI or nVidia releases one of the newer cards in AGP. I'm hoping to get another 4 or 5 years our of this rig.
For right now it seems like the x850xt-pe is more powerful than the 6800gt. But...what about three years from now when all sorts of games are using Shader Model 3.0, like Unreal Tournament 2007 and the Unreal 3 Engine based games? Will the extra processing power of the x850xt-pe be able to overcome the disadvantage it has compared to the 6800gt? Does the advantage the 6800gt gets from being able to use Shader Model 3.0 allow it to overtake the x850xt-pe? (Assume that both cards are similar in price.)
you could always go this route: SAPPHIRE ATI X800GTO2 AGP 256MB GDDR3 TV-OUT DVI BROWN BOX
seems fully moddable to x800xt/x800xtpe: X800 GTO² to X850 XT Mod

Ugh. People have got to stop posting links to Page computers.

This is a question I am also currently pondering. I am building a used P-4 box for a friend, and in the process, I'll have the chance to upgrade my 6800GT to a X850 XT. From what I've gathered the X850 XT is faster in most everything but Doom3.
Has anyone upgraded from a 6800GT to a X850XT?
Will many future (1-2 years) games use the Doom3 engine?
Does Shader 3.0 or any other specialties of the Nvidia card make much difference against the raw horsepower of the Ati?
Is $100 (my cost of this upgrade) sound like worth-it-land to anybody?
Any help on this decision is greatly appreciated in advance.
Also, my 6800GT overclocked from 350/1000 to 415/1100 does the X850 XT overclock pretty well?
Just one last edit: The Ati card runs hotter, but has a dual-slot design that blows the hot air out of the case, is this cooling method better at lowering case temps?
if you're gonna say something, clarify it please.Originally posted by: ITPaladin
