Hi. I'm looking to buy the new ATI graphics card. But, on the website I'm looking to buy from, it said that the card was the XT and not the Platinum Edition. I called up someone at their costumer service, and he said that the XT was the same thing as the PE. Does anyone know if this is true or not? If it is not true, could you tell me what is so different between the two? Thanks in advance.

The PE is clocked faster then the normal XT. It used to be the only AGP cards that were XTs were also PEs but I think that's been changing.

Yep, the PE's are clocked faster....... can't figure out why they would do that unless the regular XT's are just failed PE's

So, basically, I could just overclock my XT and it would be nearly the same thing as the PE at no extra cost?

not nearly EXACTLY...

or you could even buy a x800pro with VIVO and try and flash it to an XT-PE bios. There is some chance that this may not work and you are stuck with an x800pro but otherwise you have an XT-PE for the price of an x800pro. Many people have done it and there are many threads on it in the video section.

the difference is like 20Mhz core and 120Mhz RAM.
core should be overclockable without problems, but whether you can push the regular XTs another 120Mhz on RAM, which is 60Mhz of DDR ( should be doable too )

Most XT's come with Samsung 1.6ns RAM, which hits 560MHz EASILY.

So, it is possible to OC an XT to PE status then?

P.S. Sorry if I'm repeating something that has already been answered in this thread. I'm just new to the whole overclocking thing.

ATITool. Google it. Download it. Install it. Run it.
