x800xt or geForce 6800GT (at over Ultra Speeds)

Buying a new video card off the forums, i have my options of a geForce 6800GT that clocks in at 440/1130 (w/ an nvSilencer 5), or an x800xt.

x800xt give a small performance boost over a stock clocked 6800GT, and even ultras I've heard, whats the better card, what games does ATi do better than nVidia in and vice versa?

thx

Wow, that's a pretty nice overclock... I would go with the overclocked 6800GT... Already powerful at stock speeds, but decent overclocked as well, it'll provide you with lots of gaming joy...

Pros: SM 3.0, over 35GB/s of memory bandwidth, great and silent cooler, very good image quality...

Cons: Probably needs a powerful PSU...

Nvidia's favourites are OpenGL games (Chronicles of Riddick, Doom 3, Quake 4...), ATI prefers Direct3D games (Half-Life 2, Far Cry, COD 2...)

Don't you go thinking now that Nvidia sucks in Direct3D, not true... In fact, Nvidia's better in Direct3D than ATI in OpenGL... (at least the X800 generation of hardware...)

Just look at F.E.A.R. and Battlefield 2, Nvidia performs better although it's Direct3D...

About the PSU issue, i have a Antec 430w TruePower (not 24 pin but o well) should be good enough...

Lookin at some benches though, it seems that the x800xt does better than the 6800GT/U's unless they are OC'd to around where this card is, I guess I just wonder how the x800xt will do if OC'd...

Antec TruePower 430W will be just fine, but I suspect you're talking about AGP versions...? Or not?

Hmm, you could be very true... a somewhat decent X800XT can overclock to the level of a X850XT-PE, which would own even overclocked GT's...

I'm sorry about my former advise, but it seems the X800XT might be the best option after all... 🙁

Sapphire X800XT overclocked - 540/1160MHz => Memory just below X850XT-PE, but core is equal...
ATI X800XT overclocked - 555/1200MHz => Over X850XT-PE speeds... impressive...

Yep, get yourself that X800XT I would say then...

Nope i'm talkin PCI-e this will acutally repalce an unlocked AGP 6800nu that was on my old mobo (old mobo crapped out the week after i bought the card).

New mobo is PCI-e, s939 w/ an X2 3800

imo i would go with the stock speed x800xt. o/cs vary and i wouldn't count on it unless the seller guarantees it.

any games in particular? also, i don't know what you are paying but i thing newegg has some 7800gts for ~299 AR

im only paying ~$200, so that'd be a lot more, im not gonna really have to shell out much extra $$$ b/c i grabbed abut $190 for my 6800nu AGP on eBay...
