X800XL vs 6800GT

This is really pissing me off the 6800GT PCI-E cost $370 while the X800XL PCI-E cost $275
THe X800XL AGP is like $330 and the 6800GT AGP is under $300.

If your in the market for one of these cards, at least the choice is simple if your concerned about prices.

PCI-e X800XL
AGP 6800GT

I think that the AGP version of the X800XL is more expensive due to it being a native PCI-e GPU with the Rialto Bridge chip to make it work in AGP mobos.

I think that the PCI-e version of the 6800GT is more expensive for its SLI capability thats not available in AGP.

So why are you pissed?

I agree with Keys. If you going AGP get the 6800GT if you go PCI-Express get the XL.

Not in Canada, I keep looking for these cheap 6800gt agp cards and not cheap. Good deals on the x800xl (in a relative sense), but I expect prices to drop quickly after both announce their new cards at the end of this month (maybe).

i'd get the 6800gt any day (SM3.0)...but i don't understand the odd prices they give it on the PCi-e version...hmm.......good to see the agp prices down....

Wasn't the 6800gt originally released as an AGP version? Because if it is AGP native, that would explain the higher cost of the pci-e version. If not, then my guess is as good as anyone elses why the pci-e is more expesive. Maybe they want to rake in more cash with the SLI option.

the PCI-e versions are also not as abundant as the AGP versions so that could be another reason as to why theres a difference in price

Yes it was AGP first. Nvidia uses a bridge chip to go from AGP natice to PCIe, ATI uses a bridge chip to go from PCIe to AGP. The higher cost of the PCIe 6800GT is still partly because of its SLI capability tho.
