Hi. First post here...

I have an msi x800xl. Out of the box, the stock specs were a bit low. I ran dxdiag and it told me the card was an x800gto. Running ati tool told me I only had 12 pixel pipelines. I flashed the bios to an x800xl bios from whatever it was (this card was a possible refurb. not sure, as I bought off ebay) and the card displayed correctly in dxdiag and ati tool. However, still only displays 12 pixel pipelines. Any advice? Should I try a different bios?

According to a few websites, the card should have 16 pipes stock. I am getting the correct memory and core speed finally, but the pipelines arent there.

Thanks in advance.

Problem is I got it off of ebay. I think the guys DOA policy has expired by now.

Furthermore, after changing the bios, it seemed to improve it a good deal.

First I will try another bios flash. If I still dont have the 16 pipelines, I will return it. The card's serial number and core imply that it is in fact an x800xl, thats the weird part.

Thanks for replying, posted on other forums and got no help at all.

Edit: I am about 80% sure that this is an x800xl. I mean, it has the dual dvi output, etc. The stickers on the board are for an x800xl, and ati tool claims its an r430.

Odd thing is though, an x800gto is an r430 as well...

I suggest you run 3Dmark anyways just to get a reference score. That way you can see if the card is performing like an X800XL.

Sure. Ill give it a shot. Btw, clocked it to 430/550 stable and played FEAR at 40fps or so, 1280x960 on high setting.

Is it possible ATI tool is broken?

Problem fixed. I tried a different flashrom version and messed around with it for awhile. 16 pipes. Thanks.

Hmm, it's still possible you got screwed over.

What i find interesting is that i think you may have just successfully modded your MSI X800GTO to an X800XL :D

I am not so sure about that. I think it was an x800xl because it has stickers on the board that say x800xl and the card has the dual dvi, svideo ports.
