X800XL "Infinite Loop" Error

😕
I'm wondering if anyone has seen this error. I'm running a new Asus X800XL video card and it works great for all of my games. However, when I try to install the Asus SmartDoctor utility I get a Blue Screen error that says "The driver for the display device got stuck in an infinite loop."

The driver causing the problem is "ati2dvag". I've installed all of the latest drivers and versions, etc. and no luck - I've tried the latest Ati 5.2 driver and several versions of the Asus driver. My support requests to Asus have been ignored.

Thoughts?

My Rig:
Chainetch VNF4/Ultra (BIOS v2.0)
Asus X800XL (Asus driver version 8.09)
1GB PDP Patriot 3200XBLK RAM
Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS
Windows XP SP2

I don't suppose you fixed it? I'm having exactly the same problem with an Asus AX850XT I put in yesterday. Games - no problem at all, but blue screen if I try to run SmartDoctor. I know the "infinite loop" thing isn't unheard of, but I haven't found a solution yet (a lot are old fixes for AGP cards). I'm also on XP SP2, and an nf4 motherboard (an MSI Neo4 Platinum).

5.2 isn't the newest, 5.3 is. Try contacting ATI and see if htey will help. Also try using the driver that uses the ATI control panels, not Catalyst Control Center.

I got this same error @ work on an ATI V7100. I installed the latest drivers and it didn't help. We were thinking that maybe a file got corrupted or something. Was a very strange series of problems. Swapped to Nvidia 6600 GT (will go to Quadro 3400 soon) and haven't had any problems so far.

I use an X800XL @ home and haven't had any problems. Running the catalyst drivers from march.

To me it still looks like ATI has some work to do on their drivers (I was using Pro/E @ work, which is OpenGL, and I'd stay away from ATI if you do mostly openGL stuff).

Anyway, not sure of a solution for you other than uninstalling your drivers and then reinstalling the latest ones. Hopefully that will fix the problem.
