Is this a big upgrade from a 9800 Pro?
That's not an option for some people. Especially those that are using systems that aren't quite old enough to replace such as people with socket 478 P4 3ghz systems. I've only seen 1 socket 478 motherboard with PCIE by Albatron. There are also those using Dells that just want something better than their Geforce 5200 video card that their system came with.Originally posted by: racer42
No, there is no AGP part, but that's why I'm asking WHY anyone would want to lock themselves into another AGP purchase. There's a PCIe mobo to fit any budget and that opens up a wealth of better/cheaper card options. How can it not make sense to move on?

Don't know about big, but I'd say somewhere in the vicinity of 15-30% increase in performance, depending on what you're doing

With socket AM2, and Crusoe coming out soon, I don't see how it makes sense to buy a new motherboard right now. You're socket 939 will soon be obsolete, almost as soon as AGP is. And as for the Intel choices, P4s already don't measure up to AMDs, they look even worse compared to the new Crusoe processors.

What I am wondering is why some PCI-E fanboy has to post on every single AGP deal thread
saying "just upgrade, spend a bunch of money and time that you don't need to spend so you
can get a video card for $25 cheaper."
Seriously, a new CPU, motherboard, vid card, and a clean OS install is not a simple matter.
Unless you have intense XPU usage depends, you play the latest games, or you just like
to piss away money on upgrades, you do NOT need the latest and greatest (and most expensive) gear.

More like 100% - My X800XL 3DMark03 & 05 scores were easily more than double that of my 9800 Pro.
Big difference.

Does this card by chance support AVIVO? My computer is part-time gamer/part-time HTPC and I have a 9800 pro right now. Any video acceleration would be nice on my 1080i/p videos.
