X800XL $269 CDN or 7800GT $500 CDN

Is there that much of a performance difference between the 2 to justify spending more for that 7800GT? Bang for the buck I was thinking of that x800xl but would that be adequate for most games to play smoothly at high quality? Also I been hearing bout some image quality issues on the 7800GT which makes it not so attractive. Drop some opinions on this pls.

Id definatly save the money and go with the 800xl , theres no way a 7800GT is worth 500bux you can play all the new games fine on your 800xl save your money!

Depends on your settings and resolution, while I love my X800XL, she canna handle 1680x1050 with "high" IQ settings in BF2, and FEAR is even worse. I'm going to hold out upgrading until I see what r520 has to offer and make my decision then.

Go for the x800xl cause the 7800GT is not worth twice xl's cost.

x800xl personally. I would use the money saved for a dual core cpu or an lcd or something else.

do you have a large monitor that requires high res? that would be a main thing. if you are forced to play games above 1600x1200 then you should get the 7800 otherwise the x800xl will be fine.

I'll only be going up to 1600x1200 on my monitor. Think I should hold out a lil longer for ATI's new lineup? Maybe their new midrange card's would be a better choice since it would have newer technology on it.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Building a new computer using an x2 3800+ or x2 4200+. I have a Dell 2005fpw with native resolution of 1680x1050. Not sure which video card to get. Money is an issue, at least enough so to rule out the 7800gtx.

Any suggestions as to which of 7800GT, 6800GT, X800XL, would be the best choice

To run a 2005FPW properly, you need the juice... Go with the 7800GT if you can afford it. Due to the increased field of vision, 1680x1050 can be more taxing than 1600x1200 even though it is less actual pixels. The 7800's excel at high resolutions, even in games where they don't give you much at lower ones. it really depends on your budget though... None of the cards you listed are a bad choice by any measure, but the 7800GT will most likely last you a bit longer than either of the other two. IMO, the 6800GT and the X800XL are almost an equal match (with a slight nod going to the 6800GT), so I would decide based on price if you decide not to go for the 7800GT.

I would disagree that the x800xl and 6800gt are comparable. Probably in HL2 only - most of the time the 6800gt is significantly (20%+) faster. According to gaming benchmarks anyway

I would get the X800XL for $269. It's in my price range as I was initially thinking a 6600GT in the $200-250 range. But I got in on the X800XT PE refurb deal, and they finally sent out the confirmation e-mail that the orders are being processed. Final price was ~ $298.xx ($289 - 10% code, pst, gst, $19 shipping).

Possibly, but that ~20% isn't going to be the difference between playable/non-playable or sweet eyecandy/no eyecandy. While the stats may show a differnce, I don't think it will be truely significant when actually gaming.

I would buy the 7800 gt, but would research the noise at idle before making my purchase. The gtx may be the better purchase. :beer:

Yeah, from tigerdirect. Apparently one review showed that the Connect3d X800XL is somewhat slower than other X800XL's though (Sapphire). Anyone read any other reviews that showed the connect3d x800xl against other x800xl's? Post em up..

Edit: The GT is very much worth it over the XL. I do find it hard to believe that the XL is cheaper in Canada (I know ATI is based there) while the GT is higher in price.
