Yeah some times they don;t even come with all the stuff you should get with the card like cables, CDs, etc.

It clrealy states that it doesnt

I bought an Ati 9800pro refurb from New egg and it turned out fine. This is my lone experience with refurb video cards from them. I get the feeling that if you are buying a card with the intent to soft mod/ bios flash you are better off staying away from refurbished. There's a good chance the card got refurbished because it had pipes that wouldn't open or something and so someone returned it.

The pipes always open on the VIVOs. My personal experience with Newegg "refurbs" is 1 DOA video card and 1 DOA processor.

Damn, when did ATi do this $125 price cut on PCI-E VIVOs??? Nuts! Forget the X800XL!

Yeah I agree that an X800 Pro with it's pipes unlocked is a better deal than an X800XL for the same price.
Yes the pipes may allways open but you may get artifacts and distortion. So sometimes the pipes are as good as unopened.

Strangely, Newegg classifies refurbished items as untested returns.
Here's a quote from newegg:

"Newegg.com does not test any product, including refurbished items. Refurbished components are therefore only tested by the original manufacturer. Due to the varying quality of manufacturer testing, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING REFURBISHED PRODUCTS. Refurbished items are OPEN BOX products that contain components that have previously been owned by other clients and returned to Newegg.com. These products are sold considerably under cost."

I firmly believe Newegg should change there refurb policy.
The word Refurbished implies a tested item.
Oh well, what can we do.

ummm...if you haven't heard, X800XL is faster then X800pro by quite a bit....... hence x800pro (which is discontinued I think) will sell for less

Hmm..I would think that one of the reasons why they are refurb is b/c someone tried to open the pipes and found out that they were no good and then decided to return it.

Just a thought....

....but I thought all VIVOs were able to be opened to XT specs.

at the RAGE3D forums...some of the unlocked cards got artifacts after a couple of days. They concluded that the unlocked pipes were not 100% usuable and closed the pipes.

It is neither a guarantee that an unlocked card will have all good pipes nor that the card itself will overclocked well. Overclocking is always YMMV.

It's very rare, i've never heard of a problem. If you have artifacting, it's overclocked too far ... rarely are the pipes at fault.

Grrr, wish they had AGP versions going this cheap 🙁

This is a VIVO card. IT can be flashed to an x800XT PE (provided that the refurb does work), and would be faster than an XL by quite a wide margin.

i'd second that

remember the issue where 9500's would flash to 9700np's? some people had a "successful" flash, but had "checkering" in 3d applications

i've exeperienced it myself a long time ago.
