Just bought an X800GTO2 from NewEgg. This exact card:

SAPPHIRE 100130 Radeon X800GTO2 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - OEM

I couldn't find it on NewEgg anymore, but there is a VIVO card just like it for the same price. In any case, mine Bios flashed to 16 pipes with no issues, and the Trixx overclocking utility bundled with the card came up with 560 Core and 565 Memory as the maximum overclock. I have it at 520/540, which would match an X850XT. Overall, a great buy for $208. Smokes the 6800GS.

Coolies, performance-wise, the X800GTO2 takes the cake when comparing it to the 6800GS. Unforunately, I'd rather be supporting nVidia due to their better performance in linux. A 6800GS for 200 is still good too considering it can go to 500 on the core and I think about 1300 on the memory essentially beating a 6800 Ultra.

My brother and I are updating our graphics cards and looking at the 200 price range. My brother is going for the X800GTO2 and I'm going for the 6800GS so that also gives us some diversity. :)

That's a great deal.

I wish these GTO cards where out when I bought my 6600GT for $160. At that time, there was nothing in the $150-$250 range worth buying. Even a GS would have made me happy.

Me too- I have a Connect3D GTO that wouldn't unlock but overclocks like no tomorrow- Would like to compare my 3D Mark 05 score to yours.

Edit- good deal for you at $208- Awesome performance per $ spent!!

I don't have any aftermarket cooler, but the stock one is pretty good. I don't have any case fans, so things are getting a bit warm.

It's too late for testing before the upgrade to 16 pipes, but I can test at stock sppeds and overclocked. I'm downloading 3DMark2005 right now...

My 3DMark-5 scores:

Don't know how much my Sempron effects the scores. I ran the "free" version of 3DMark05, version 1.20. No AA or AF.

X800GTO2 at stock speed, 16 pipes: 5234

X800GTO2 at 525/540: 6381

So about a 20% increase with the overclock.

The CPU isn't really a bottleneck with single cards in 3DMark05 . . . yeah those scores are about equal to an X850XT . . .

Nice 3DMark05 scores. My card is running at 580/1220 and I only got 3DMark05:~5970 (12pipelines, fireblade x800gto). :(

Although I only paid $170 for it, and it has pretty good temps.

Still a good price/performance ratio- what cpu/speed are you running?

Actually, I'm pretty sure an x850xt benches at ~5500 - 5800.

But, I'm probably wrong.

That's a damn high overclock on the memory! Mine crashes out around 570 or so. The X800GTO is definately great bang for the buck at around $170.

For normal everyday use, I'm running at 520/1080, which is X850XT speeds. NewEgg now has the X850XT for as low as $249, which streals some of the thunder away from the X800GTO2.

Hum how the hell... my new 6800GT AGP with my AMD64 X2 3800+ OC'ed to 2400 Mhz with 2 GiG of RAM barely gets 4900 and that has my 6800 GT slightly OCed as well. Hum....

thesurge, are you using heatsinks on your ram? 610mhz on the memory is sweet.

Actually, I'm pretty sure an x850xt benches at ~5500 - 5800.

But, I'm probably wrong.

I installed my x850xt last night.
I'm using the CD drivers dated 12/21/04 - 6.14.10.6505
(I can't tell what driver release this is ... I will update as soon as the ATi site allows downloads ... It's getting hammered right now ... so maybe the 5.13's are out )

All ATi CLI driver settings are stock. (not on performance and NO OVERDRIVE (OC) yet)

3dm05 - 5636
3dm03 - 11,382
AM3 ... - 54,434

I also installed 2 x 1gb XMS c2 running at 200 (DDR400)
10.5 x 200 = 2100Mhz on my XP2400 mobile

I lost some Mhz and a little bandwidth going to this memory.
(was at 215fsb with 2 x 256 sticks)

But, Q4 no longer stutters walking into a room :D

And I gained around 100fps over my old r9700pro.
More than doubled my 3dm05 and 03 scores.
Interestingly,,,, 3dM01se is still just below 20k... so this bench is definately CPU bound.

I had some issues getting DVD working, but all is good now.

I'm real happy ... only 250 bucks after i get my rebate on the VC.
And 290 for the DDR.

Anyone interested in some PC3200 that runs 3 2 11 Cas 2 at 220 fsb ...?

Forgot to mention my card is AGP.

I installed the 5.12's.
I forgot I only had one dimm installed, so now 2mb Dual Channel.

3dm05 6036

I'm currently running WITHOUT the CCC.

I'm really pissed ATi forced us to use this interface.
The CCC installs 2 more memory resident programs. (2 CLI.exe's )
It also WONT WORK WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS.

WTF.

So, currently, I have no control over driver settings.

Doom3 timedemo

8x6 - no AA HQ - 35 sec at 61.4 fps
10x7 2x AA HQ - 35.7 sec at 60.1 fps
10x7 4x AA HQ - 39.7 sec at 54.1 fps

Quake4 timedemo
10x7 HQ ALL options on (noVsync) AA x2

3142 frames in 39.6 sec at 79.4 fps
