X800 XT PE or BFG 6800 GT?

Fry's is holding a 6800 GT for me and I need to go pick it up before they close.

Anyway, should I keep my PE or sell it and get a GT? I'm more concerned with game compatiblity and stability then the performance increase the PE has over the GT.

So anyway, what do you guys think? Need to know ASAP.

Thanks,

are you having any 'compatibility' problems with your XT? why are you considering changing in the first place?

If you don't care about the money, I don't know why you would do this.

On the other hand, if the money matters to you I'd say sell the X800XT PE on Fleabay for big bucks, pay your $400 at Fry's for the GT, and be just as happy.

BTW- I had your mobo combo last year- do you ever get the famous cold boot error where you have to turn it on multiple times?

Unless you can get a GT for $350 and sell your XT for $500+ I wouldn't bother. I infact have a GT coming in (got it for $300 at compusa), so I will face the same problem soon. I'll ebay one of them depending on the performance of my particular GT and the cost I can sell each card for. Right now, it looks like I will ebay the GT simply because they are such high demand.

Keep the XT, its a faster card and imo the best one out right now. You will NOT be dissapointed with it especially since it has features like temporal AA which essential makes 6X AA look like 18X AA, lets see nvidia do that. 3Dc will also probably turn out to be a really nice features seeing how you can have 4X the detail without a performance decrease. Overall I would go with the x800 XT PE, i have an x800 pro right now and i LOVE it, no regrets what so ever.

The XT doesn't like my ASUS P4PE mobo. I think it has something to do with the AGP. It won't run the Ruby demo unless I drop the AGP down to 1x AGP. It's an old mobo that came out right around the time 8x AGP was just coming out.

I've haven't had a single issue with my mobo since I built it a couple years ago. That it, until I put my XTPE in it. It's been stable as a rock with my 9700 Pro.

Is it just ruby that you are having problems with? the 1.2 ruby didn't like my 4.7 catalyst driver. I downloaded the original 1.0 ruby demo and it ran just fine. I was getting some sort of sushi error. You might want to give the 1.0 a try

So if money is no object, keep my PE?

I was actually leaning towards the NVIDIA card because it seem to be more compatable with all the games. For example, the shadows in SC are pefect on a Nvidia card but don't work correctly on a ATI card. This is the kind of stuff I want to avoid. Nvidia seems to have better support by game companies.

Personally, I would have upgraded your mobo/cpu before getting a next gen card. Your CPU is a serious bottleneck.

I would however keep the XT, its the better card. There really is no debate on that.

I tried that and it still didn't work. Basically what was happening was my monitor would lose the signal and then go into sleep mode. The only thing that fixed it was lowering my AGP down to 1x. I also had this happen in BFV and UT2K4. With my new mobo this games ran perfectly so I'm pretty sure it's my old P4PE AGP.

What's wrong with the shadows, you got a screen shot?

Hell... go ahead and get the GT... play with it... then you'll have first hand experience as to which you like better, the 6800 series or x800 series.

The shadows not looking very good on ATI cards is a known problem.

I've already been offered $600 for the card from some guy on ebay.

I think I'm just going to pick up the GT tomorrow and try them both out. Maybe I'll just keep both cards since I'm going to have two systems soon.

Ahhh to have lots of disposable income... must be nice.

Go with the GT..Its as fast almost as fast as the XT, if you overclock. IMO, Nvidia offer better value for money, with latest tech, were as ATI rehash old cards..

BBGmr...Wondering if you had a chance to try out both cards and make a decision. I am VERY interested in the XT PE you have and wondered if you were willing to let it go.
