Back to the OP... I personally would run with the x800XL unless you plan to utilize SLI in the near future. It's roughly identical to 6800GT, minus sm3.0 and $100.

I ran that 1080i vid, p43.2e / 9800 pro, i'd have to say roughly 60fps, without a single stutter from start to finish. After seeing the 10fps the NU pulled, I expected it to look like crap... A nice surprise (for a change) ;)

So what did you use to measure this "60fps" and "10fps"? I have a 6800NU on my 5 year olds computer and would like to check.

I eyeballed it with 11 years of PC gaming exp. Infact, after running it I thought about coming on here just to ask you how you determined yours ran 70-80fps so I could bench mine. That isn't a slam, so don't get all defensive and post that the average human can only detect perceive 30fps.

I was hoping you actually had a way to benchmark it other than looking at it and dropped frames.

I never said it ran at 70-80fps, I only said on my 3800+ it runs perfect and on my 3000+ it has two hitches.

I've been playing computer games for 17 years myself, but in no way can I look at a game plating and tell you what the fps are, only if I perceive it as smooth.

The videos are recorded at 30fps, but I believe 30fps for full motion video is a different sort of thing than what we're used to discussing for video games?

If my "argument" doest hold any merit, feel free to debunk it.

Acting like you are better than someone on a forum is pretty pathetic however.

Would you like me to put my other box up then? Hrmmm? Does it matter which is there? I don't think so.

I *am* better than you, boy, in just about every way you can imagine. ;)

About what I expected from you. You say my post doesnt have any merit, and yet you cant debunk it. You call my post wothless, then post this jewel of a post. Good job being hypocritical, and useless.

You are also ignorant, you do no know anything about me. If you cant post on topic, dont expect a reply anymore.

I know enough about you to know that you spew 3rd party information from mostly irreputable sites when you want to prove a point, and I have yet to see you win an argument.

I know enough about you that you have about a spec's worth of personal hardware information, and that if you had to actually troubleshoot an issue, you'd have to give the Best Buy Geek Squad a call.

You are a worthless addition to these forums, and every post you make bolsters that fact.

Sure I'm ignorant. I don't profess to know everything about everything, but what I do know far surpasses anything you could compare to. ;)

the difference in the benchmarks you quoted is considerably more if you run look at 1280 (scroll down), and even more if you look at at's comparison @ 1600, where the xl can't break 30fps....

that being said, doom3 is really the only weakpoint of the XL (and ati overall), and is quite competitive in most other games. at it's pricepoint it's a great card and if doom3/quake4, etc. is not that important, quite easy to recommend.

i do think your comment on ati's amr is a good point, however we just don't have enough info at this time.. a secondary consideration is how these sm2b cards will compare/perform vs sm3 cards (not only nv's, but r520s as well) in upcoming u3 tech based games, which seems to be less than a year away (this year has been mentioned, but i still find that hard to believe).

Even in Anand's test it only beats the XL by 10fps in Doom3 max'd. Still you & I basically agree that if you aren't planning on playing Quake4 for the next couple of years (and it's offshots such as UT2007), then the XL is a very good path to take. Honestly, I have an nVidia card right now & I am not dissatisfied by any means...of course I do plan on spending a ton of my free time playing Quake 4 when it comes out.

I am quite curious as to which cards will own Battlefield 2 though since I haven't read anything about it. I did read they were using SLI setups at E3....!!!

The Best Buy Geek Squad?!?! The lowest blow in all of hardware, Ronin drops the G-Bomb.

Pretty funny- "Errr Geek Squad men? I plugged my monitor into my new video card and nothings happening? WHAT?! I need a computer?!"

Their calls must be priceless.

UT2007 isn't based on the Doom 3 engine, it's based on the competing Unreal Engine. Or did you mean "similar (FPS) titles" rather than "offshoots?"

The x800 XL performs just about as well in my experience, if you can get one for cheaper do it.

Just a quick question, does anyone know if all x800 xl's support 1680x1050 resolutions for widescreen displays? (specifically the asus or MSI)

My Connect3d X800 XL runs my 2005FPW at 1690*1050, so I expect other (more expensive) cards based on the same GPU to do the same.

Sorry for late reply Mono but my X800XL runs 1680x1050 perfectly. Also does so in most games i play, Half Life II, WoW, BF2 Demo, Everquest II, Guild Wars and More. Well mine is the Ati model but should do the same.
