X800 pro reading as X800 SE but at X800XT clocks???

I just got my video card back from RMA (it was replaced) and ever since some extremely weird stuff has been going on with it. First off, it's being read by the motherboard as an X800 SE but i'm sure it isnt because the look of it definitely of the Sapphire X800 Pro PCI-E. Anyway, it says it's an X800SE and i look at the clocks and they're at 500MHz GPU and 500Mhz memory! those are x800xt clocks! Also, it says im on an R423 chip which i think is an x800XT chip. Anyway...I'd really like to know what's going on because I'm very confused.

just as clarification and reminder...this is a Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro VIVO PCI-E (OEM) and was purchased from allstarshop.com
 
If they gave you an open box card as a replacement the previous owner could have "softmodded" it to unlock features and messed it up in the process.
 
any other ideas? it seems my video card is getting really hot too...just from a little artifact scan on atitool it went to 71 C and it's idling at around 45 C
 
How many active pipelines? (ATI Tool can tell you that)
If you are run @ 500MHz/500MHz, 45C an d 71C is absolutely normal because my x800xt pe stock run in the approx the same temp.
 
12 pixel pipelines...which is another weird thing...if this was an XT it would have 16...for some reason i feel like somehow this card got completely messed up but who knows...any help would be appreciated
 
yes, I would think that it's completely mess up. One thing is for sure, it is not a x800xt because it only has 12 pipes and it generates artifacts @ 500MHz. I would RMA it if I were you.
but if you insist on keeping it, you could try to flash it with a XT bios.
 
well it's not supposed to have 16 pipes...i bought an X800 PRO not an XT...and it wasnt generating artifcats...the scan came up with no errors..it's just extremely weird
 
X800Pro is supposed to be 12 pipes @ 475/900.
You have a 12 pipe card @ 500/1000 that runs without issues and you're complaining?

It may run without issue now but how about six months from now? I agree with you though, it is a tough decision. Does he keep the overclocked part or RMA it. Does he try to softmod it to the X800XT since he is already running at XT speeds with no problem?

Edit: Assuming the PCI-ex version of the X800pro has 4 disabled pipes. I am unsure

Some VIVO's can be unlocked, but I dunno if it's AGP only or PCIe as well.
 
I know they can be unlocked...but what the heck??!?! i just completely wiped my drivers and reinstalled and it still says it's an SE...so i have no idea what's going on...from the outside it's DEFINITELY a pro...anyway i called the shop and they gave me the manufacturer's number...so im gonna give em the serial number and all...we'll see...why do they have to mess up!
 
If you were sent a previously returned card, why was it returned in the first place?

Obviously whatever the possible previous owner did to it didnt work properly. I dont think its worth the risk to keep it.

RMA it as soon as you can and get what you paid for. In the end, it may not make a difference but is it worth taking a chance?
 
Ok i've been issued another RMA number...good thing allstarshop has some great customer service...wow...second RMA for one part...i must have the worst luck ever witnessed. Problem is i dont have a spare pci video card so ill be stuck without a comp for 2 weeks or so. This is the second time i've had to deal with this...i really can't beleive it.

All i have are 4 pci slots and a pci-ex slot...and my dumb old TNT2 is AGP lying on my desk. *shoots himself*
