First of all, yes I saw this at Techbargains before anyone says I'm trying to claim the credit...

eCost.com has the X800 Pro for $359 shipped free, but with a $6.95 handling charge.

Anyway this looks like a good deal for those who didn't snag one from BestBuy.com

They appear to be in stock @ eCost, at least for now...

I think the 6800 GT for 345$ shipped is a better deal, since it outperforms the pro in the majority of tests and is cheaper. However if you feel you have to have ATI for whatever reason this is a good deal as long as you don't live in CA

It actually looks like there will be 256mb 6800 standards.

Also, opinion around here seems to be that Jaton is terrible... however I have no experience with them myself.

They seem to be about as bad as PCworld.com

eCost is fine until you try to return something. They have the worst return policy of any online retailer. They make you call up the manufacturer and go through all of the steps to get an RMA with the manufacturer, then once you go through all of that, you have to go through the same thing with eCost! It took me three hours on the phone to get an RMA for a defective Sony LCD display that I bought from eCost. Oh, and then after I returned the display, they told me that they couldn't replace it because it had been discontinued, so they were issueing me store credit. Every other LCD display they had was overpriced by $100-200, but they wouldn't give me a refund, so I ended up overspending by $100 on a Planar 19".

I will never order from them again, regardless of how good the deal seems!

TYVM Dantzig. I appreciate that info. I think that has sealed me on waiting for an x800 deal from a more reputable online vendor. I cant even imagine how pissed i'd be if I got a DOA x800 and had to go through that. :(

FYI (as you mentioned) they slap on a surcharge to every order. It's been lowered since I've used them, but here's the current rundown:
Total Product / Fee
$0.00 - 50.00 / $3.95
$50.01 - 100.00 / $4.95
$100.01 - 200.00 / $5.95
$200.01 - 300.00 / $6.95
$300.01 - 400.00 / $6.95
$400.01 - 500.00 / $6.95
$500.01 - 1,000.00 / 1.1%
$1,000.01 + / 1%

IMHO, I think it's a little dishonest to do this only at the last moment before the purchase. I guess the idea is that you see the at-cost price, then they add on some profit. But since every other company in the world just gives you the price straight up including any profit, I think it's dishonest to advertise at the pre-surcharge prices.

Called up eCost right now for the availability and they said estimated instock date would be Aug, 12. Too long of a wait.
