Hi Guys not sure if there something in my system slowing me down. Yeah I know about the CPU bottle neck. But anyway I have a Pentium 4 3.0 gig northwood overclocked to 3.3 gig, 1 gig of corsair ddr 400, and 2 maxtor 120 gig drives in raid o.

Anyway with the X800 Pro set at default settings ie Balanced I get 8700 3d marks. At Performance setting I get around 8983 3d marks.

When comparing them with others I see a lot of people getting over 10,000 using 3.4 gig intels or even 3.2. but I assuming they overclocking the card, which I am not.

I did get a 8700 3d mark at 3.0 gig on the northwood.

My games are all running fine at 4x AA 16x AA like tiger woods pga tour 2004 at 1280x1024 resolution and that game puts a lot of pressure on the card with all the outdoor landscaping.

So just some thoughts on those scores is there anything that might be slowing me down compared to others scores? For complete system specs look below.

P.S. maybe I should try overclocking the card? Where can i get a good overclocking utility for the x800?

I would imagine the latest PowerStrip build would support that card.

People have been saying that the memory overclocks like mad on that card, and the core should reach XT levels.

Honestly, your scores disappoint me. I get 6400 with my R9700PRO, albeit my card is moderately overclocked. I would have expected you to double my results, or close to it at least.

all your concerns with overclocking your CPU and others getting higher scores with 3.4/3.2 ghz clocks, you should be looking at your 3DMark2001 Score.

3DMark03 is heavily dependent on your graphics card.

Personally, I have an X800 Pro too. and i got a 9,850 3Dmark03 score with an overclock of 525/525

If you want to raise your 3Dmark03 score, then overclock your X800. overclocking your CPU n all that, will give you lower increases in a 3Dmark03 score.

Try ATI Tool or Powerstrip. I like ATI tool better though.

3DMark03 scores doubled? Have you seen the 3Dmark03 Hall of FAme list? it ranges from 10,000 lowest , up to the highest world record of 16,802. and these scores are from a lot of high high end pc's overclocked. and you're expecting the X800 to double your score of 6400 in 3DMark03? haha.

Yeah I guess double was an overstatement. Still, 9000 3D marks is not really that far ahead of what I'm using now percentage wise, and my hardware is coming up on being two years old. I would imagine that some R9800XT's come close to 9000 3D marks. Based on the specs, YES, the X800PRO should DOUBLE my performance across the board! 50% more pipes, and 50% more clockspeed. I realize now that's not what happens in reality, but on paper, it should be happening.

part of that could also be in part to what driver you are using.

the cat 4.5 beta driver has some optimizations which which the 4.5 release does not.

555/535 here got me to 10,256. Not sure how much higher I can go. I'll go little by little and see though.

525/525 got me right where you are. I suppose you might can go higher. I have a vantec blue card cooler under my X800P though.

So much for these things being bad overclockers.....

I think there's more to be had. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger and go with water cooling (Danger Den setup) and I bet I can get more.

6400 3dmarks a modest overclock? wow.. i can barely score 6400 with my 9800pro on a 3.4ghz P4 system...

No, not when you consider my X800 Pro got 24.8k (or something like that) on a 3400+. Whole system stock+Overdrive enabled.
