X800 Pro $150, or 6800GS $200?

Which should I get: an eVGA 6800GS for $200 shipped, or a BBA X800 Pro refurb w/ 3 year warranty for $155 shipped. Looking for an unbiased opinion, but I doubt I'll get one. I will add aftermarket cooling and overclock.

In all the results I've seen the 6800gs was a better card. And for the $50 imo it's worth it. I think I am getting one for my computer.

the 6800GS will perform better, but in price/performance terms, the X800 Pro is a better deal i think.

That being said, even with the warranty, i dislike refurbs...so i'd likely go with the 6800GS myself.

well it all depends, are you talking pci-e? if so then go with the 6800gs, it's on par with the 6800gt, and they tend to overclock nicely. the X800GTO2 would also be a good option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102645

GS = faster, better feature set, more future proof, more expensive
Pro = a little slower, fewer features, cheaper

I'd go with the GS since it will come with a much better warranty (Lifetime with eVGA, BFG, XFX, etc.) and can overclock very well (from 425 to 500 mhz easily from what I've seen) and is pretty much as good as a 6800GT, especially when OC.

The X800Pro is really too old of a card. At this point if you're gonna go ATI you might as well get something like the Connect3D GTO which is better than the X800Pro and OC better as well. But still, a 6800GS can be found for $195 on Newegg so for the extra $40 it would be worth it I think . . .

i'm not sure about those 'lifetime' warranties
For our retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products purchased on or after June 22, 2005, EVGA will provide a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of each retail product that the product will not suffer, in material or workmanship, from any defect that adversely affects the performance of the product. This lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product, based upon the following conditions:
what does that bolded text mean? is it until they EOL the product? that could be next week! i want that clearly defined before i'm certain that these lifetime warranties are any good.

edit:

this is what BFG thinks of competitors' warranties:
LIFETIME WARRANTY.
Other vendors may claim to have a ?lifetime warranty?, but closer inspection of their policy reveals that ?lifetime? is defined as products currently on the shelf and in production.
here is BFG's warranty for comparison:
BFG Technologies is proud to warrant the original purchaser of the graphics card included in this package ("Product") that the Product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the product

edit:

XFX's warranty
At that time, XFX promises that the graphics card purchased (Product) will remain free from any defects in material or workmanship for the lifetime of the Product, as long as the Product is used properly.
note that it says 'for the lifetime of the product.' what is that? is it something XFX can arbitrarily set?

seems like BFG's is the best warranty if you're going to keep the card for a long time. if you're not, a time-limited warranty may be better if you can transfer it.

There's not going to be any noticable performance difference between the 6800gs and x800pro, so you might as well save 50 dollars.

sm3 is nice and all, but try running decent resolution with hdr and it'll make your perfromance come crashing down.

both overclock well.

the x800pro can mod but it takesa bit of work, a pci-e bios is released so all you need to do is take off the heatsink/fan, scrape a little covering from a contact point, dab a little bit of conductive paint, or use a conductive pen to connect the 2 halves of the contact point that has been laser cut and then reinstall the heatsink/fan and flash the bios. takes a while to do, but it's a pretty higfh success rate and improves perfromance a lot.

teh GS is a better card stock from the start. The performance difference is noticeable, try comparing the 6800gt to an x800pro....which is basically what a gs is. The GS generally overclocks better than the pro. If your into hardcore modding like mwmorph suggested teh GS is still better in that category- http://www.vrforums.com/showthread.php?t=47261 . That guy acheived 7869 in 3dmark05.

I think I'll take my chances with the GTO2. :D

Though I doubt those R480s are "surplus." They probably didn't make the cut, so I assume they won't last long at 16p 540/580. Hopefully, should be similar in performance to my AGP X800XT @ 550/605.
