X800 or 6800?

Hi. I'm just wondering which graphics card will be better running games at 1600x1200 with full AA and AF. I heard that the X800 family was better at higher resolutions with AA and AF, but I'm not completely convinced. Could any of you please tell me from personal experience(or credible links) which one will run better at these settings? Thanks.

As of right now, this very second, the x800xt and x800xtpe win ALL benches at 1600x1200 with AA and AF enabled with the exclusion of Doom3, which goes to the ultra. Counter Strike source is debatable as many sites have conflicting results. If these cards cost too much, then the 6800GT is for you. :)

Is your budget unlimited? The top end cards turn back and forth on benchmarks. Either card will do u fine. (Im assuming your budget is $500+)

Get the X800 XT -- almost as fast as the PE and cheaper. The PE is not worth the extra money unless you want the top of the heap.

Where can someone find a new ATI x800 xt PE for sale? I tried google and searched a bit but no luck. I went to eBay but that was a farce. eBay sellers wanted way to much. I went to the ATI website and they have a price of $499 but not in stock as with every where else.

I guess I should have mentioned I'm looking for the ATI x800 XT PE for purchase on the Internet. My bad:).

PM me their number, as I'd like to call them to see if they'll ship one out.

Good luck finding an "ATI" X800 XT PE. When you say "ATI X800 XT PE" Do you mean an actual "ATI" brand card (one packaged and sold by ATI themselves)? Good luck finding one in the stores at regular retail price (MSRP $499.00). Everywhere I've seen them that claims to have them in stock (such as Ebay) is WAY OVER MSRP.

I found a small store that is selling the Visiontek Xtasy X800 XT (non-PE) for $488.00 plus shipping (and tax in California). These are in stock. I've never used a Visiontek, ASUS, or MSI card, but they all seem to may positive reviews from people that have used them.

The non-PE cards are only clocked slightly slower on the core (500Mhz vs. 520Mhz). The memory one the non-PE X800 XT is clocked at 500 Mhz (vs. 520Mhz on the PEs'), but the performance difference is probably minimal at best. Heres' a link to that store I found the X800 XT (non-PE):

http://www.gameve.com/gve/Stor...ils.aspx?sku=VC-VT-009

I was "lucky" enough to get my HIS Excalibur X800 XT IceQ II 256MB (PE) at the end of August for the princely sum of $550.00 (plus tax and shipping) from Super PC Mart in California. They are now selling (and out of stock on) NON-PE X800 XT AGP units for $570.00.

Or, you can wait just like most everyone else who wants an X800 XT PE card. I originally had the "ATI" X800 XT PE on order from CDW, but after waiting a week I decided that if I was going to wait I wanted the HIS card instead (although the HIS warranty is only 1-yr. as opposed to ATI's 3-yr. warranty). I ordered my HIS card on 8/2 and they came in about three weeks later. Heres' a link to Super PC Mart's HIS X800 XT page:

http://www.superpcmart.com/products/detail.cgi?sku=2121

And heres' a link to the CDW page for the X800 XT PEs':

http://www.cdw.com/shop/search...00+xt&platform=all

You could always go with a 6800GT. Seem to be plenty of them around at <$400.00 and they are fast cards. Not as fast as the X800 XT PEs' but at least $200.00 than anywhere who actually has the X800 XT PE in stock!!! Plus, if if matters to you, the 6800-Series support Shader Model 3.0 WHICH THE X800 DO NOT).

Good luck in your search.

The Vtek at GameVE seems to be your best bet for a X800XT/PE on the internet, maui. Whether it's worth 25% moer than a 6800GT is your call--read the reviews. Otherwise, consider a 6800GT for ~$400. NewEgg has a bunch in stock. (Just avoid that $360 Asus 6800 "GT", as it has only 1/2 the mem and at only 7/10 the speed of normal GTs.)

I hardly think the X800XT PE is worth it over the 6800GT. The games that are out hardly utilizes the full power of the X800 so it probably wont be worth it, also your other components might be a bottleneck so if you ask me go with the 6800

First off, my apologies to the Daemonifuge for kind of highjacking this thread. I just was interested in this thread because it talked about the two video cards that I am looking at. Mahalo to Aries64, Pete, and effee for taking the time in responding to my inquiries.

I'm gravitating to the ATI card. I like the customer service I recently had with them when I had to RMA an other video card with them. I've got it back over a month ago and so far so good. It's because of the service I got from them is why I am interested with ATI. Another reason is that Computer Shopper really talks highly of this card in a recent article when the built their "Ultimate Desktop":). Maybe the 6800 GT is better in some respect but I guess I'm into brand loyalty because of previous purchase history.

Again, thanks to all.

6800U(E)... X800XT(PE) does bench faster but the 6800's seem to be more consistent and never too far behind. Also IMO more future proof.

agree.
I saw the eVGA 6800GT at Newegg for like $379 I think it was

not a bad price for a hell of a lot of performance.

I'm kind of leaning towards the X800XT which I will hopefully OC to PE. It seems that the X800 series performs better at higher resolutions and stuff.

At higher resolutions with AA & AF at higher settings, the ATI cards seem to do better than the nVidias...so you pretty much answered your own question.

If the X800 XT or XT PE are outta your price range, then you'd be looking at the X800 Pro vs. 6800 GT.

Most people say go for the 6800 GT, & i'd agree generally speaking, but in your case, if you can find an X800 Pro for less than the 6800 GT, then you should probably go for it.

Or you could look for the X800 Pro VIVO if you wanna do some modding.

And yeah...use the search function.

This question has been asked five zillion times.

Good luck!
