I'm sure this is a stupid question, does anyone know if the X800 will work in a motherboard that only supports AGP 4x?

The X800 documentation indicates 4x/8x AGP3.0, but I was under the impression that 4x was AGP 2.0 and that AGP 3.0 boards do not work in AGP 2.0 motherboards.

The motherboard in question is an Asus A7V333.

it should work - but if you're using an agp4x motherboard, you may not have a fast enough system to benefit from the x800! It looks like you want 2.4ghz P4 or about 2ghz AMD before the x800 really starts to perform from what I've seen.

What CPU are you running? It WILL work, but I have a feeling the X800 is massive overkill for your computer.

I'm running an AMD 2200+, GeForce4 Ti 4400.

Basically what pushed me to consider a new purchase was playing Joint Operations at 15 fps. CPU was only at 40% however.

What's "Joint Operations"? How old is that game? Does anyone here know if that game should really be taxing a GF4 Ti4400 that much?

The thing is, OP, your current videocard is a much better match for your system right now than an X800PRO would be. The only games that should be making your current card struggle are DX9 titles, and those are few and far between. Even Far Cry will run acceptably on a GF4.

Make sure you turn of AA and AF in your driver as they cause a massive slowdown with the GF4. That may be the problem. It sounds like a bit of a configuration dillema. If you post some more details, such as the resolution and settings you're running at, we can give you more help hopefully.

Joint Operations will be released later this month. The second demo was just released on File Planet yesterday. It allows 100-150 people to play per map. It is a BF1942 type game with modern weapons.

I changed the game to "performance" settings (low texture detail, etc) and I'm running it at 800x600. Since the game has already gone gold, I'm guessing that the graphics speed is going to be pretty close to this in final version. It is possible that it is just bad coding, but users with 9800 Pro's claim that they are getting 50 fps average.

Since the in game performance counters are showing 15-20 fps and 30-40% CPU, I'm guessing that it is pretty much just GPU bound.

Perhaps a 9800 Pro would be a better match for my system and I should wait to take the final plunge when the R450 PCI-Express, Ultra Diamond Uber Expert Limited Edition (with Candy Sprinkles) comes out.
