Question X670 Chipset...

Is this going to be a thing and if so in the near future? I only ask because I plan on getting a 5900x when they actually become available (that is my second question, lol) and I think I want to get a new MB at the same time. I am still using my old Gigabyte x470 Gaming 7 and I plan to upgrade another computer with that MB and the 3800x I have now. Certainly, I can find and be happy with a B550 or x570, but if there was any hint of a newer chipset on the horizon I would gladly wait - especially if I could get all the x570 features without active cooling on the chipset for example. Just trying to plan it out ahead... Thx.

I know nothing of an x670 but I’d guess it will happen sometime this year.
x570 chipset fan is not audible for all but the biggest whiners. Lots of undeserved drama surrounding it.

A X670 if it comes will be a new socket for new CPUs. I don't see them refreshing the chooser with no major changes and features this late after the 5k CPU release.

Don't think we will see a X670, nor any new AM4 chipset at this point this year. The next release cycle will likely be a new socket, is what I'm reading at least. So unless something changes, its possible that the B550/X570 is end of the line for AM4 and this is end of the line for AM4 likely too, and after this year maybe we'll see what's coming. Things could change quick though with Intel trying to get back in the game again finally with new leadership. Competition is always good for us.

Just get a good X570 based board with good VRM and cooling. The fan on the board is not noisy, unless its the only fan in the entire case and your case is open and you put your head into the case. Overstated at best.

Very best,

Thanks, and I don't worry much about chipset fan noise, I am just a fan of eliminating another point of potential failure/maintenance.. Honestly, was just trying to come up with a quick feature off the top of my head that the x570 doesn't offer... It would make sense if the next iteration included features that require a new socket altogether at this point.

There is at least one fanless X570 board (Asus dark hero) but can confirm that the fan is pretty much silent at least on my board. There are really no features at this point that X570 doesn't offer so I wouldn't expect a new chipset until next gen and DDR5.
