x64 Antivirus

I'm looking for an AV compatable with x64. I tried Avast, and it crashed my system frequently. I have AVG installed at the moment, and the firewall crashes frequently. I saw where CompUSA has Kapersky Internet Security 6.0 on sale cheap with a rebate, but Googling, it appears that it is a resource hog. Zone Alarm is also on sale, but not the x64 version. My head is spinning some, so I'm hoping that someone can make a recommendation. Preferably with a firewall, but not absolutely required.
 
And today we learn why Rangoric doesn't shed a tear for Anti-Virus Companies vs. Microsoft. For Rangoric runs XP x64.
 
Hmm, I know that Kapersky is compatable with x64, but when I clicked on the AOL link, the system requirements did not specify x64. Are you certain about that?

You could well be right, but Avast caused me alot of problems, whether originated by it or not. All that I know is that when I uninstalled Avast, the crashes stopped. Therefore, I really don't want to mess with it any longer.

I would prefer not to use the Windows firewall, because I have read that it only protects from data coming in, and not from data going out, like a trojan would be sending.

 
The only "registration" is they require an email address to send you the activation key. Use a spare web email address instead of your main one if you are that concerned about spam. 🙂

What other form of registration are you referring to?

Any downsides to using the AOL AVS?
AOL may send spam to the address that you registered the AVS with.
EULA may leave the door open for AOL to implant spyware (although none has been added thus far). To be on the safe side, DO NOT install the optional toolbar that comes with the AVS.

After taking a quick look at the privacy link on the AOL page, I found nothing about guaranteeing anyone's privacy, only what you had to do to qualify for the program. It may not be as bad as it appearred, but I do not like becoming a lawyer to size up a situation.
 
I am very familiar with all of that. Those of us that aren't concerned about the fine print on the privacy page will continue to use the free version. 🙂 Another thing to keep in mind is that the only information you are giving out is a valid email address to get the key. Unless the program starts capturing your personal data off your pc somehow and sends it back to AOL there is nothing to be concerned about.

Regardless, if you want to purchase Kaspersky you won't hurt my feelings at all. In fact I applaud your efforts to support a great company. We need more people like you! :thumbsup:
