Looking at upgrading and looking for some feedback. I mainly use my PC for gaming (1600 x 1050) but I also do some game development on the side in Softimage, Mudbox and Photoshop. My budget is $1300 with a max of $1400.

From what I can see the i7 930 maybe a better choice in gaming, it looks like the additional 2 cores will greatly help in my 3D applications. I have the cash so would like to purchase as soon as I get the OK from you guys.

My current PC specs
Antec Nine Hundred case - Reuse
OCZ GameXStream 700W PSU - Reuse
EVGA 780i Motherboard
Intel q6600 @ 3Ghz
8GB (4x2GB) G.Skill PC2 6400
EVGA 8800GT
2X Hitachi 80GB drives in Raid0

I’m looking at the following

Save a 100$ bucks on the 5870 and buy a 5850. You don't need a 5870 for 1650x1050.
Save 100$ and buy a 1055t and overclock it. They seem to be hitting 3.8 easy.

Take the 200$ saved and buy a larger SSD. 🙂

I would just purchase a new video card for your current setup. Sure, you'll see some improvement by going with the new Phenom II x6, but it's not really, in my opinion, enough to justify purchasing an entirely new system. If you get a 5870 for your current system, you'd be able to run pretty much every game out there on settings maxed. I have a q6600 and there's still plenty of life left in it. I'm contemplating a video card upgrade myself (I've got a 4850) to get another year or so out of my build.
