X58 vs P55 Showdown

In just about every benchmark shown today and even in those not listed the multi-GPU results favor X58. Nothing shocking about that as in previous testing with both Nvidia and ATI video cards, we came to the same conclusion. The only difference today is that we are using the latest generation DX11 capable GPU and the percentage differences are not really any different with previous GPU chipsets. Where we did not have a difference was in actual game play experiences. It was impossible to tell the difference between platforms, except for some additional thermal output from the X58 setup.

A lot of information in the article. It's a great read for anyone who's interested in upgrades, or PCI Express technology in general.

I built up a system the other day using an evga p55ftw and a hd5870.. I can open the case up after gaming for 30-60 minutes and some parts inside are actually COOL to the touch. CPU is OC'd (860) to 3.3 w/ auto turbo to 3.8 and it idles in the upper 30's. My X58 system in an identical case w/ rampage ii extreme, gtx285 and a 920 OC'd to 3.3 is a complete bake-oven after gaming.

I don't understand the point of these scaling articles. All it does is put out misinformation about performance. Like in case of Batman, percentually (is this correct English?) X58 scales better in both, average and minimum, framerates. But looking at the actual framerates, P55 and 860 actually performs better. So this information about scaling is meaningless. X58 and 920 scales better, ok, so what? It still looses in performance.

The info has value to those who are on the line trying to figure out which way to go.

I don't plan on i7 anytime soon but if I was to I'd like the chance to see as much data as possible
and see no reason to discourage anybody from posting similar articles.

If I was going i7 on the other hand I'd go the eco friendly route 🙂

So basically if your going to run stock and a single GPU like myself then P55/I7860 is the way to go...

What cooler for the 860? And do you use 4GB or 8GB with it?
