I picked up parts for a new system mainly for gaming and digital content creation - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD5 motherboard with Core i7 920 and 12 GB (6 X 2 GB) DDR3-1600 memory [2 packs of corsair TR3X6G1600C9 rated @ 1.65V].

I simply can't get the system to reliably detect 12 GB of RAM. It randomly switches between 8GB, 10GB and 12GB and off-late I just don't see 12GB and mostly only 10 GB.

The memory voltage is set to 1.64V and the QPI/Vtt Voltage is at 1.335V. I even tried reducing the memory multiplier from 12 to 10 to see if I can get all 12 GB to detect at 1333 MHz. That didn't help.

I don't intend to overclock the system as of now and am more interested in having a stable system. I may at a later point try to achieve higher clocks without voltage increases, but that is not for now.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you set the timings correctly? If so then it may just be a compatibility issue, check if the kits you bought are on the official support list.

You should also check that you have the latest BIOS. If not, download it from GB's site. Do not flash unless you are 100% sure that your rig is 100% stable.

As HIO suggested take some RAM out and see how the machine behaves. Another thing you should do is run memtest. This will help identify bad sticks or unstable configs.

Tell us how you're doing.

Intel memory i7 920 spec is DDR3 800/1066. With all slots filled you will probably have to run QPI ~1.4 volts at 1600. Or try reducing memory speed to 1066 and see if its all detected.
