Motherboard MSI X48 Platinum
Running latest 22 BIOS
CPU: QX9650
RAM: Wintec PC3-1333 DDR3 memory (4x2) with 8GB total
Vista Ultimate

There is a POST error that just came up out of no where. Been using the system for several months. The error is below:

Quote:
"Warning !!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed,
and the system is restored to the defaults setting,
Press any key exclude "DEL" to enter SETUP......."
The system HAS NOT been overclocked. This also happened before but by just getting into the BIOS and changing something and pressing SAVE it would fix it (may take a couple of tries or a couple of reboots). However, we cannot get past it now. The only way around it is by getting into bios and then NOT saving bios (the system will then boot). However, next POST it will come up. If you change anything in the BIOS and do SAVE, it will still come up with this BIOS error.

We have tried loading the default BIOS as well as fail-safe. Does not fix it.

We have done a CMOS clear by using the button on the back with the power unplugged and pressing the button for 30 seconds. When it comes up after doing that it says F1 to continue or F2 to setup (it knows the CMOS is cleared) and then if we change anything, again, during POST it comes up with that error.

Any suggestions? Anyone have experience with this board or chipset?

Wait, did you also pull out the battery??? if not, that may work

Battery is unneccesary to pull due to the CMOS having its own clear button on the motherboard. The CMOS did clear, because once that was done then the error came up and said BIOS has cleared, F1 to continue or F2 to setup (something along those lines)

Perhaps the CMOS battery is losing power? Maybe you can try replacing the battery with a new one, although the mobo is new, it's not uncommon to find your CMOS battery already failing.

That's a difficult situation to assume everything will work stably at defaults.

When you have 4 DIMMs, you might need higher NB voltage, or vdimm, etc.
Why not go into the bios & set the ratio manually, set the vNB/vdimm manually, & even the main timings manually.

Then run some Memtest86+ & HCI Memtest in Windows.
And P95 for the CPU...

How would I know what to put for NB Voltage, vdimm, etc?

Look up the rated specs/voltages/timings for your RAM please.

As for NB voltage, try a bit higher than the default (if not listed, research your mobo).

First just try Memtest & then HCI Memtest.

It may not be RAM/NB at all.

But considering how difficult 8 GB is on mobos, if i see 8 GB & anything related to stability, i'm going to make that initial guess.
