Is DFI a good brand? Are you serious? Can't say about that board in particular but DFI is one of the very best out there.

Yes I am serious as I don't really ask for enthusiast or gamer branded products and it screams just that.

DFI is an excellent brand, their lanparty line really is generally oriented towards enthusiasts but that doesn't detract from the overall quality, their LT/UT line makes up their highest end parts (6 layer pcb, 8 phase pwm)

They're usually one of the last to market with a new chipset, usually because they're tweaking their designs to go above and beyond just about anyone else (although this generally only shows when you're pushing the system to the nth degree). However because X48 is so similar to X38, I doubt they had to do much to update the design and thus are a rare first to market (although you can still see their traditional tendency to be late with their DDR3 X48 board)

The board rocks Ruby. I own the X38 version and this is suposed to be its replacement.

If you think DFI design screams New Kids on the Block, you should take a look at the offerings from Gigabyte (Lego) or ECS (Crayola).

Edit: OK Jokes aside, the DFI X48 board is solid. I wasn't hugely impressed by performance, but then again nothing since 975X has impressed me performance-wise so I'm biased. One notable advantage I observed is a markedly lower voltage requirement. I am also pleasantly surprised that all PCIe slots work as they should.

I run the X48, its in my sig. Its a very stable board, well for me anyhow. The thing with the DFI boards is that it can be run with just the 4 major ram timings plugged in, or not, and the rest on Auto, tho I do set all parameters, but it isn't really needed for normal running.

DFI had a really crappy rep many years ago much like ECS, but a dude named Oscar came along and transformed them into the premiere tweakers brand and improved quality immensely. They have been the king of overclocking boards for some time now.

If you setup a machine at stock settings DFI isn't what you want, that would be like putting regular gas in a Ferrari DFI's bios can be rather intimidating because the amount of things you can tweak are mind boggling.

this would normally be true because DFI boards almost always command a premium price...but this is also an extremely rare case where the DFI board is actually the cheapest X48 solution currently on the market...

his analogy would be more like throwing in a single core Celeron - or even an E2xxx or just about any processor that costs less than the board

I've pretty much settled on the Rampage Formula for my new build.

Has anyone had a chance to compare the Rampage's performance to the DFI X48? I imagine both are fine boards...

I'm very pleased with my 2 DFI motherboards, although they're S939 Lanparty with nF4 chipset.

Positive:
When S393 was the rage, DFI was among the best overclockers. Supposedly that was partially because DFI managed to recruit a top designer named OskarWu, who really knew how to do it right.

Negative:
The DFI-Street forum (now DIY-Street) had a lot of complaints posted about later DFI boards with ATI crossfire.

I may buy DFI again for my next build, but that won't be for awhile. Will re-evaluate at that future time.

Edit: Wow, the mobo you linked seems kind of pricey, doesn't it?

As for DFI, they hold the vast majority of overclocking world records in the last couple of years.

Amazingly high quality board. I can't believe anand and hardocp are giving props to asus rampage when it doesn't have digital PWM....

I can vouch for the DFI X48T2R. Best Motherboard I've ever owned. Well, almost as good as the nforce 4 lan partys

As far as i'm aware all the X48 bords available i've listed here http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums...x48-one-none-poll.html , hope it's of use. I've never seen so many DFI boards for a while. I've moverd to DDR3 and have got the http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums...dq6-living-review.html which is cool, but think i might try out the DFI ddr3 X48 when it comes out in May I think.
