I just purchased a brand new AMD Threadripper 1920x for $399 which I think is a great deal.

I am looking to acquire a X399 motherboard but everywhere I look I see good and bad comments.

I know a lot of it is based on peoples knowledge or lack thereof. If you own an X399 motherboard, what is it and what has your experience been like, if you don't mind sharing? Not a newbie, been building PC's since 1994.

I have 5 X399 ASRock Taichi motherboards. I have nothing but good things to say about them.

Where did you get the 1920X for $399 ? That is supposed to be the new MSRP, but newegg and Amazon both have it over $500

Sweet price! I'm looking at the 1920X CPU too, currently own a few Ryzen 5 1600 6C/12T, looking to move up to an intermediate 12C/24T, with eyes to get a 32C/64T, when the price becomes "reasonable". Like, maybe years from now, LOL. (Or if I win the Lotto.) Who knows, AMD may come out with a 128C/256T consumer chip three years from now, and we'll all be laughing and reminiscing about how CPUs "only" had 32C/64T. :)

Anyways, I was looking at two ASRock boards, the Taichi X399, and the Fataility X399 Pro, which has both dual Intel GbE NICs, AND, an Aquantius 10GbE NIC, which is what I want to move my home LAN to, in the next 3-5 years. By then, maybe FIOS will offer 5Gbit/sec home internet connections. It could happen. :)

I'm planning to run the 1920X for a while and then upgrade to 2950x when the excitement becomes ho-hum

So you guy are avoiding ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI X399 boards?
I have had problems lately with ASUS, gigabyte burned me a few years ago, and I do have an MSI board for my 2990WX, but I like the Taichi better, it just does not have enough phases for the 2990WX

I am in the same spot, running a FX-8350 on a 990FX Asus TUF that has never behaved right, no support with ASUS, had a bad experience with Gigabyte before that ... so I understand, have been waiting for a while to upgrade

Just doing a 360 check to decide what to buy, wasn't going to do anything without a deal on the CPU

When I look at what's available I wonder if Intel isn't paying ASUS/GIGABYTE/MSI to undercut AMD with bad motherboards

So you would swear by ASROCK with 5 boards? Impressive!

NO.

Taichi and Fatal1ty are two different names of almost identical boards.
Just a few cosmetic differences for a premium.

Taichi is a overclocking / workstation board.
Fatal is a overclocking / gamer board which has a premium because it has the name fatal1ty.

IMO, just get the Taichi.
Do not support Fatal1ty.
I have no idea why ASrock still pimps his brand when he no longer has anything to do with esports.

Also the Designare EX is in short Gigabytes G9 series.
Its top of the line, however if it works out of the box, its a great board.
If it doesn't i really do not like Gigabytes RMA policy of giving you refurbished boards on a flagship board like that.

Your paying a premium on a flagship brand board, the RMA should be new, not a heavily refurbished one.
I have a G9, and it will be my last gigabyte board i will buy, because if im paying for flagship, i demand flagship kind service.

Also ASUS has the WORST CSR, which is why a lot of people are avoiding it now.
They are just too wide spread and big now, that they can not handle themselves internally.
They have great products, but CSR service is horrendous.

I just wish there was a x399 Dark from eVGA like the x299.
Bit eVGA only makes intel boards, which is sad, because the x299 Dark is hands down one of the best boards you can get your hands on.

Even though I said I was going with the Fatality, I am still waiting patiently .... I may very well wait until the post New Years period when retailers need business to buy my next build. Been doing this for 24 years, learned that waiting is most of the times the best strategy.
