This is the SSD to get for those who have irrational fears about using SSDs. :p

Irrational fears over SSDs? Inconceivable!!

2 things:

1) G2, has TRIM support
2) Can be converted from 9.5mm std height to 7mm by taking out removable spacer :)

Thanks again VL. Just ordered one of these as well as the 80's from a week ago.

The new 80's - although G2's with the newest firmware, did not come with the spacer to convert to 7mm height, don't know if this means anything for the 160GB version.

I have a couple other 80 Gb G2's that have the spacer ring though - about 2 years old, wonder why they eliminated it.

Really? Do you have a pic? Does it say X25-M G2?

I know the 330 series and up removed the ability to 'shrink' the physical drive size via spacer. I think the last one was the 320 series (a.k.a. X25-M G3)

The first batch of 80GB X25-M SSDs that TD was selling, had the black spacer around the edge, making them 9.5mm. The second batch of X25-M drives, didn't have the spacer, and appeared to me to already be 7mm.

I have no idea about the 160GB X25-M drives that TD is currently selling. Perhaps someone will get one and post about it.

Larry is correct, I hadn't taken my 80's out of the packaging yet to look closely, just noticed no black ring. Mine are 7mm with no ring.

They are indeed G2's with 02M3 firmware.

Great drive!

I paid 450 for this drive 3 years ago and have no regrets, still going strong with daily use as a system drive in my HTPC.

If they can do $40 AR for the 80GB version, they should be able to do $70 AR for this one, since these are cheaper to make per GB. Going to pass for now, but thanks for the heads up.

Probably because for the most part they aren't needed. If using in a notebook with a 9.5mm thick drive bay, there will just be some empty space.

Yeah was about to say, about 2.5y ago I paid something like 3-4x for this, totally worth it though. Kind of crazy how the prices have dropped.
