x2 owners: how does the 'smoothness' of dual core

I use a p4. Sometimes, when I am listening to music and have opera, internet explorer, outlook, agent, foobar open at the same time, the music slows down or gets a glitch when I open up a folder or change programs. Or when I run a spybot scan, it hogs most of the cpu resources and switching to a different program or opening a folder takes forever. Do these admittedly rather minor annoyances go away with a dual core cpu?

Is your P4 hyperthreaded? My hyperthreaded P4's didn't really have the problems you are describing, while the non-hyperthreaded did sometimes. As for the dual core, it does feel smoother than my hyperthreaded P4. How much ram do you have? That could be part of your problem as well, or if you have an older slow hard drive.
