I am building my new system.... so far it looking nice... Asus a8n-sli prem. mobo, XFX 7800gtx video, 4gigs of ram.....

when it comes to CPU though i am debateing...

I dont know if should buy a simple 3200+ Venice at a cheap 190.00, or a 3700+ San Diego (for the extra cache size) at 323.00, or bite the bullet just install the 4400+ Toledo @ 729.00.

If i go with the Venice, i'll keep it a few months until the X2 line get cheap and pull it and put in an X2... if i go with the San Diego..i'll be keep it longer.

My uses: Gameing, some video editing.

I wanted to go all out and just buy the best i could of things right now... but i am consdiering the accutal use of the computer, in the fact that i wont do many multithread capiable things, except the video stuff maybe.

Any ideas, suggestions.. inside info on future and soon to come price drops?

thanks every1
always a big help

With all the money your dropping in ram (4GB is prolly overkill even for "some" video editing ) you could buy the X2..

If i was investing as much as you are in a system, I would have a X2 in there.

Money isn't the main factor.. i dont' care what i spend on it... I was just considering the whole thing around the other cpu setting there doing nothing in an x2 and being a waste.

and besides ram is cheap LOL

i would explain your situation a little more if your open to suggestions...

just get one gig of ram... or at most two for the video stufff... use the money your saving to get the x2 or better ram

details are key....

im not sure if i understand you correctly... are you saying x2 is a waste? becuase might now yes that might be proven true but you need to give programmers and everyone time to utilize the technology

if money isnt a factor why ask this question in the first place... go for the x2

expensive ram isnt cheap... bill gates

If you can afford it, get an X2. If you can't, get a 3200+ Venice and OC it to like 2.7-2.8Ghz or so.

i am getting Corsiar XMS cl2 ram... the only thing better would the OCZ top line stuff... which i migth get.. i am bebateing (i've just always been a corsair person lol)

I am gameing... bf2, doom2, video edit--takeing compalations of 10 to 15hrs of video... editing down to 2 hrs for DVD pressing. But that wont be all the time... Video editing done in Adobe Premire and After Effects. DVD will be dual layer comps.

what other details would you like to know?

Venice 3000+ is by far the best P/P value right now. Not sure why you'd consider the 3200+ which is $60-70 more...

X2 ... go for it. If money is no object, go for the very best.

Just keep in mind that either choice will be outdated early next year when AMD moves to the M2 socket.

jesus 4 gigs of that stuff! i have a gig of the 2225 stuff and i thought that was expensive... personally i think the corsair stuff is better but thats another thread....

i honestly wouldnt purchase over 2 gigs... and get the x2...

if later on you think you could use more memory... i cant figure out why you would... then hell why not buy some more...

or even better why not save for sli or watercooling or hard drives or a raptor or monitors..........

Video editing? Get the X2 with 2 gigs of DDR400 value RAM and you're set. Don't waste sleep over something this simple.

By the way, you say RAM is cheap, why don't you try getting 4 gigs of buffered, ECC, DDR2 RAM = 4 gigs? You call that cheap? Not to me at least.

How about future XDR RAM at 8 GHz? That's cheap? Think a little more about the aspect of RAM before you start saying things.

4400+ Toledo @ 729.00.

That's just crazy! Almost $200 markup....get the 4200 for $490 at monarch.

See sig for total dominace over 540D.

What video software? Maybe even a single core would be fine.. are you overclocking?

Most guys are getting 2.7 and even 2.8 with heat spreader removed. A couple 2.9's with heat spreader removed and water. 2.6 is happy-safe, after which AMD starts leaking like a mofo anyway and needs heavy volts and snowballs into heat/volts/heat/volts and not much gain mhz wise.

kewl good ideas so far...
and to valkerie, i be your apoligise for my statement about the price scale of things. To say something is cheap or expensive is a relative term.. its not as though i was giveing incorrect advice on how to do something.

Overclocking abilities after cutting the cpu in half and connecting a heat sink to the unprotected chip surface is a selling point only for crazy people.

So your sentence should read : "Most crazy people" rather than "Most guys".

Meh.. you void it's warranty second you overclock it anyway..why not go for cooler operation and remove that crappy spreader?

PS I got 6C on my winny (although I nnever like discusing temps..only as a relative thing) every -10C get's you about +100Mhz from baseline of 30C. DC gets even more benefit like 10C

4GB of Corsair XMS. Nevermind that it will perform worse than 2GB in most things since you're using 4 sticks. Nevermind that the motherboard manual says 4GB configurations might not be recognized, and 512MB ValueSelect DIMMs are the only Corsair memory the manual lists as working in all 4 slots.

You're contradicting yourself. First you mention price as a concern and even ask for info on upcoming price drops. You mention the X2 as though you are worried that you won't use enough multithreaded apps to justify the cost. In your second post you turn right around and say you don't care what you spend on it.

Obviously you're keen to piss your money away, and this thread is just bragging about the size of your wallet and the cool stuff you're about to get. Just get the most expensive Socket 939 CPU you can find and be done with it.

Or did you have a legitimate question that I missed somewhere?

How do they know you overclocked it? Do venice models and newer AMD chips come unlocked out of the box? The mobile 1500+ I'm using now did, and ive been wondering this for sometime but thought it was to dumb to ask lol. I'll be upgrading here withing a month so I guess i'd need to find this out sooner or later:pthx
