The onslaught stages in UT2004 tend to be very cpu limited.
Doom 3 is just about as tough on the cpu.
Halflife 2 is less tough on the cpu I believe.
Flight sims are very tough on the cpu.

BTW, didn't Tim Sweeney complain awhile back that DirectX adds a lot of overhead on PCs that hurts performance that you don't have to deal with on the consoles? I guess it'd be cpu performance then that is hurt, which doesn't matter so much as PCs have much faster cpus than consoles anyhow.

My results are officially null and void. I loaded up Prime95, set the priority to high, set it to the second core, and then benched Far Cry.
Pardon me, I don't understand... if the point of multi-threaded drivers is to be able to utilize two cores, then why run P95 at high priority on one core, essentially limiting yourself to a "single core" system?

150 fps is easy to get in single player mode.

Online multiplayer UT2k4 is capped @ 85 fps.

Are there any known benefits with these drivers using only single core CPUs?

he wanted to see the difference between single and dual core with these drivers. so he ran 1 set with 1 core occupied by prime and then with both cores available for the game.

i think it would be better to just run a set of benches dual core with say 71.89 and 1 set with 80.'s.

Most games now due to the fast progression of video cards. Or any game at low detail settings.

BTW, UT2k4 has a software rendering mode that would certainly tax a cpu, however it tests different functions of a cpu.(I believe it's also intel optimized and amd hindered, as I believe even pentium 3s vastly outperform athlon 64s in it, yet back in the days of software rendered halflife the athlon used to crush the p3)

hm, I think the jury is still out on what these drivers do. I'd love to see some performance gains when I drop in my X2

To compare the difference between running the game on one core vs. two cores, to show the advantage if any provided by the second core.

Just comparing benches for the two drivers only proves that the new drivers are faster than the old ones, not that it is utilizing the second core.

if its 20-30% it likely wouldn't just be a faster driver.

I see. Any results?? Anyone??

They probably transferred some of the workload of the GPU to the 2nd core or something.

so on a dual core with regular, pre-80 drivers, the second core is not utilized in games at all?

The second core would be utilized in multithreaded games. But I think this supposed performance boost has nothing to do with whether or not games are multithreaded, it's something different (what exactly, though, I'm not sure.)

Supposendly DirectX has quite a bit of cpu overhead, most likely the nvidia drivers are offloading that to the 2nd cpu. This would help in cpu limited cases.
Or how about another possiblity, they're forcing the 2nd cpu to do some kind of hidden surface removal in all games.....however, that'd only help in games that are limited by having too much geometry, which is like no games right now and probably wouldn't account for a 20%-30% boost.

I tried this with an x2 4400 and doom3 timedemo1 went from 52.9 to 53

Has anyone without dual core tried the same drivers. I'll give it a try after lunch. BTW Velk do you have HL2 or Farcry?

This is almost wanting me to put back together my athlonMP rig and see if it gets a performance boost out of these. :p

[ Does anyone know of a program that can chart CPU usage for a decent period of time. I'd like to monitor that during some gaming sessions to see what both cores are doing.

windows can administrative tools->performance doesn't show 2 processors but 50%=1cpu
