Ripped from xtreme thanks terrance and jpeyton for making me look for it..

http://www.3dchipset.com/drivers/nv...ta/nt5/8040.php

Supposed to provide up to 20-30% performance increase in some apps.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24334

Nvidia stated that Release 80 should fully-enable performance boost on dual-core systems, such as the Pentium D and Athlon 64 X2. Ben de Waal, VP of GPU Software was especially proud of that supposed achievement - such as a 20-30% boost in performance from new drivers alone - of course, in certain apps.

80.40 is leaked you can get it at www.tweaksrus.com

More evidence that makes me salivate over a dual core system....Goodness I cant wait til about Sept-Oct when I have enough money for a new rig...

Dual CPU + Dual GPU = :D

EDIT: looks like there is no increase from dual cores, see my post further below

I'm surprised no one has tested this yet. Its been out a day, slackers!

I ran some quick benchmarks with 77.72 and 80.40 and found some interesting results. I might have screwed up somehow because I did see some 20-30% improvements in Far Cry and Half Life 2. Or, the dual core improvements really are in and help in certain situations.

Hardware:
X2 4400+ @ 2.65ghz
1GB OCZ Rev2 Plat @ 260mhz 3-4-4-8
(These are my scaled back settings, I'm trying to find my best ram timings. The PcMark 04 write tests will not cooperate with me)
BFG 7800 GTX 460/1300 (stock)

Benchmarks:

3dmark05:
77.72: 8295
80.40: 8298

Far Cry - 1600x1200 Maximum quality, 4x AA, 8x AF. Ubisoft Regulator demo, 3 runs
77.72: Average score = 44.52 FPS
80.40: Average score = 57.76 FPS

Half Life 2 - 1600x1200 Maximum quality, 4x AA, 8x AF. 1 run each

Demo: HardwareOC - Coast
77.72: Score = 108.5 FPS
80.40: Score = 110.0 FPS

Demo: Guru3D - demo4
77.72: Score = 140.6 FPS
80.40: Score = 159.2 FPS

Demo: Guru3D - demo6
77.72: Score = 106.1 FPS
80.40: Score = 129.7 FPS

I'll do some more benchmarks later (gotta run right now) and install Doom 3 to test as well. If anyone else can test these drivers with an X2 I'd really appreciate it. My results are odd but I don't think I messed up that much in benchmarking them. This is a very fresh system with unchanged settings.

EDIT: fixed 7800 core clock speed, thanks Dragon41673

Interesting indeed.. thanks:) Shows how worthless 3dmarks are again.. They don't change while your frames did as advertised.. awesome, now I'll never get an X2 at retail price.:p

Wow....nice!

*sells off all non-vital organs to raise money for a 4400+* :D

Edit: Also, I wonder if there would be any performance gains for 6800 series cards too (on X2's obviously)?

Certainly, since a 7800 is merely a revision of the same core design as the 6800.

i believe that if i see that increase throughout various benchmarks and apps.

If it only improves hl2, FC and D3 and nothing else then its simple "driver optimizations" based on popular game-engines.

The hardware does NOT get magically faster. A test over a wide range of benchies would show whats up with that.

but the point is, the hardware did get magically faster... with dual core. the driver offloads plenty of geometry and other graphics processing off onto the CPU, release 80 moves that to the second core, leaving the first free for the basic game and physics calculations etc.

Guru3d has the driver available for download as well.
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1116

My results are officially null and void. I loaded up Prime95, set the priority to high, set it to the second core, and then benched Far Cry.

Far Cry with 1 core available:
Score = 56.90 FPS (Run 1)
Score = 57.96 FPS (Run 2)
Score = 58.28 FPS (Run 3)
Score = 58.30 FPS (Run 4)
Score = 58.41 FPS (Run 5)
Average score = 57.97 FPS

Far Cry with 2 cores available:
Score = 57.00 FPS (Run 1)
Score = 57.96 FPS (Run 2)
Score = 58.37 FPS (Run 3)
Score = 58.18 FPS (Run 4)
Score = 58.35 FPS (Run 5)
Average score = 57.97 FPS

The exact same FPS down to two digits. No dual core optimizations there for sure. I'm very sorry for getting your hopes up. Does anyone know of a program that can chart CPU usage for a decent period of time. I'd like to monitor that during some gaming sessions to see what both cores are doing.

Also, how exactly would people know if the h.264 support is in, aside from taking the sources word for it. Video acceleration from the graphic cards requires specific software support.

You can use performance counters in the administrative tools of WinXP somewhere. I forgot how to use it, but it does have a graph.

If your able to, can run cinebench and post your results. And if you use shrinkDVD, would you mind running some benchmarks (on the quality setting, check perform deep analysis and set the compress video at maximum sharpness) and standard 2 hour dvd to ISO . I would be really interested to see how much difference there is between a single-dual/core and a dual-single/core.

Thank you
