Heres a fun one..or two. X2 3800, XP SP2 + all current updates. Asrock dual sata 2 motheboard. These are the only instances of this problem I have experienced. I have installed Microsoft's dual core "fix" and still experience these issues.
1)opening certain flash enabled sites causes a reboot, particularly www.ign.com
2)printscreen, open mspaint, edit/paste, the moment I hit paste, reboot.

everything else seems normal. I'm thinking about wiping my drive and installing again fresh, making sure I havent done something flunky, but I really doubt it. Anyone else with these issues?

I've just upgraded from a barton 2500 so no, although this is by far the wierdest problem of this kind I have ever seen. Honestly, I dont know how it can be anything other than an X2 problem. I'll probably end up formatting and reinstalling for shtz and giggles.

That doesn't sound like a CPU problem at all, a software or driver problem on the other hand..

cant be a power supply. its not random. its *very* specific.
it IS a software problem, but in combination with the processor. I'm pretty sure its microsoft's pathetic implementation of a "dual core fix", which wont be finalized till SP3. I was just looking for someone else with anything similar happening.

Stupid question, I know, but...about your "Flash-induced-crashes", have you tried a different browser?
Then a different Flash player version?

as for the flash induced crashes: different browser, yes. both FF and IE cause reboot loading the exact same site at the exact same time. Different version, no. Altho, I have uninstalled flash and now do NOT have the problem with the identical site.

Make sure you disable your AV for the moment...Also make sure you go into system and under advanced uncheck auto restart from fatal errors...it is likely a BSOD you are not seeing cause you have auto restart checked...which iti is by default....

I have heard of issues with java apples and flash content and some AV software...

wow this really sucks. the EXACT same issues again.

low level formatted. installed XP/Sp2/all updates. installed chipset drivers. installed catalyst 5.10. installed AMD dual core XP driver, installed MS dual core fix. Reg edited according to directions. rebooted more times than I can count in this process.

I tried before I started this process and during it and had the exact same issues every time along the way. Cool and quite on, cool and quiet off, before and after patches, you name it. This is REALLY messed up
:|

The exact same things continue to happen.
1)Firefox and IE both will cause the computer to reboot on at least 1 site in particular, www.ign.com with flash installed (uninstalled flash, not willing to try other sites)
2)printscreen and take a picture of any desktop. open mspaint, paste. As soon as I paste the computer reboots.
This crap is driving me nuts. I've isolated down the actions that are making me reboot, but I have NO idea what is behind it.

tried it without the hotfix first, and altho there is a new bios update to my board, it only adds functionality for new processors.

I have updated Flash, May 2005 AMD X2 drivers, the SP2 hotfix installed, and am not having any of those issues. That is little consolation, I know, but at least you have reason to believe that there is a solution.

Since the machine is rebooting, first suggestion is to make it blue-screen so we can see what Windows says about the exception. In control panel->system->advanced go into the startup/shutdown behavior dialog and uncheck "auto restart on error." I'm assuming it will be checked, since you say the machine is restarting. With this option unchecked it will bsod, and you can then copy down the exception information and post it for us.

I'm voting that you have a graphics driver issue, and that the exception is coming out of the display driver (nvdisp.dll if you are on nVidia).

Also, check event viewer->system events for "System error". You may also see some events in there coming out of the graphics driver (if I am right) that say something like "[driver] got stuck in a loop."

Yea, definitley uncheck the Automatically Restart under System failure to see what the BSOD states. I'm kind of leaning towards the video driver too.... Uninstall the vid drivers, reboot and use the generic drivers from XP for the video and go to the website again and try your flash and MSpaint tests. Maybe.... maybe... the agp GART driver..?
Hmm...
Let us know man.

Have you installed the AMD X2 drivers? Sorry if you said you have, and I just missed it.

Look Ma, no errors!
Amazing you can reboot and there will be nothing in the logs, and you wont get a BSOD. It's almost like I'm flicking the power button myself. I've worked this damn thing till I'm blue in the face. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the agp driver, installed different catalyst drivers, you name it. Nforce 4 here I come.

in the end it wont matter. I'm going to get another gig of corsair value 2.5 so I would be going to 2T anyway. 2T is far from the performance killer most people make it out to be. its just odd that I would have to use it when I should be able to run 1T. Maybe I can tinker with settings some.
