Please post your results if you have had a problem or not with a specific game after a fresh install of XP Home or PRO . I have been following the other x2 gaming issue threads and I?m curious if a fresh install of XP will solve any issues.

Also please post you motherboard and bios - I some have not had issues with games and wonder if it could potential be related to motherboard compatibility or bios issues.

So please answer the following

1. Did you do a clean install of XP? Let us know if it was Home or PRO

2. Problematic games? (Which games did you test? list both working and nonworking)

3. Motherboard and bios

4. AMD x2 drivers installed? (yes or no)

I will compile all the results and post them later.

Thanks :)

I have searched and have found some answers. However, I have not found much and it is not definitive or concise. I would like to have some raw data posted here, where it can be compiled and some true results will be evident.

I have seen some posting about the AMD x2 drivers, setting affinity, and programs that set affinity for you. However, I see very little or nothing-showing hardware, bios, and if one has an old or fresh XP install. The problem could be related to one of the pre-mentioned. When someone posts, hey I have the AMD drivers installed and my games are working. Is it because they have a different Motherboard or a fresh install of XP that is actually working for them? I would just like to see all the data posted together so there is a better scope of what the problem really is. Rather than a bunch of random data that needs to be hunted down to make an informed decision on what to purchase or fix. :)

Yeah it can be difficult to discern truth from fiction, especially with the influx of fanboys and trolls we've seen in the last few months.

I've yet to run in to a single game issue with my X2; That said, I've only played a handful of titles (mostly older ones) with the exception of BF2 and they all run just fine.

1. Clean install - XP Pro SP2
2. No
3. ASUS A8N-E; Bios 1005
4. Yes, X2 driver installed (although I had no trouble without it initially)

Thanks for the input and the link. I have read the link and your post. There seems to be too much random information in that thread and it has not answered my questions and thoughts fully. I think between the information being posted between the two threads we may be able to get somewhere. I would like to continue with collecting and compiling this data with as little debate as possible. When a few have posted I will make a chart and post it at the top of this thread. Thanks :)

This is a legit question I did not ask and one that needs to be thoroughly discussed...good job...

one has to wonder if the HAL is loaded differently when it initially loads and detect multicores during a fresh install...

Many ppl need to realise a very large percentage of ppl just plopped the new chip in without new install...

perpetual especially look at the numbers based on users of the Pro version versus home....I think the home users have more problematic advantures when not doing a fresh install...Pro is the true multirocessor OS...AMD used the HT flags partially I believe to buy existing support for the home version as it already has with the P4 w/ HT....Maybe the probelms ly here as well...

1.
Clean install XP Pro SP2 (I also hit F5 during install and manually chose the ACPI Multiprocessor PC HAL)

2.
BF2 (Stuttered w/o AMD X2 Driver, No Stutter when Affinity manually chosen or after the X2 Driver install)
HL2 (No noticable problems with or without X2 Driver)
Firefox (Yeah, it's not a game, but I noticed the throbber and rendering would stutter w/o the X2 Driver, the X2 Driver fixed that)

3.
Asus A8N-SLI Premium w/1007 Beta Bios (Hmm, new 1007 non-Beta just got posted a few days ago, I'll grab that)

4. X2 Driver is installed now.

I'm about to build a brand new X2 rig and will edit this post with my answers once I'm done :). Good info in this thread, and definitely a question that needed to be asked.

Thanks for the support! :)

Duvie -

Thanks for the input I will monitor the relationship between Home and PRO. I have been
monitoring the information being collected in your thread for the past week. From what I
have been reading there and around the web, it makes me wonder if there is a difference
between Home and PRO. We shall see.
