X2 Dual Encoding/Decrypting/Burning

So I just bought a X2 3800+ (finally!). With this, will I be able to encode/decrypt 2 DVDs at the same time using DVDShrink or DVD Decrypter? Can I also burn 2 DVDs at the same time and not have any ill-effects? I've always been kind of scared to do this using a regular processor even though it doesn't seem to use that much processing power.

You will be IO bound, so not really. As far as burning, I don't think you can run 2 instances of the burning software, but if you could, you could have done that before, as it doesn't take that much CPU anyway.

Like markfw said, the cpu doesnt have much to do with "decrypting" dvds. Decrypting is how fast the dvdrom drive can move and of course how fast the hard drive can receive.

Encoding, well, obviously its going to encode fast being dual cores. Im not sure if you want to do it at the same time as decrypting, it will kill your hard drive performance, but you probably can.

I dont know if you can run 2 instances, but really, why would you? You need to output dvds that quickly? I still have the good ol reliable pioneer 4x burner. I burn a dvd in 15/30mins(sometimes at 2x), I have no problems. I burn like 10-15 dvds a day sometimes. Cheers.

Well...this is the scenario. I have 1 DVD burner installed and one in a USB2.0/firewire enclosure. I have 1 Raptor, 1 SATA HDD, and 1 IDE HDD in a USB2.0 enclosure. What if I was to decrypt or encode 1 DVD on one optical drive to one of the hard drive, and the other optical drive to another HDD. Would this be similar in performance to 2 computers doing these two tasks?

I've been ripping, decrypting and encoding lots of DVD's lately to backup my my library and loan to friends.

"to backup your library" I like that. Dont lie!!! 😉

What you said will probably work. I would think it would be simliar to 2 computers doing the same tasks. I actually dont have an X2 myself so, I cant answer it completely. I dont see why it wouldnt work that way.

Also, when you say encode. You mean like, dvdshrink doing its thing? Encoding means a bit different to me, because I do real frame by frame encoding for my dvds. Using CCE(Cinema craft encoder). Which is a professional software encoder. Its about as good as it gets in terms of quality, but much much harder to use or get used to anyways. Also, takes quite a bit of learning to do as well, not to mention taking significantly longer. What dvdshrink does isnt necessarily the same thing, but anyways. 😛
