X2 and CPU Cycle Priority--Foreground/Background

I am currently running a single core A64, but will upgrade to an X2 when the prices come down a little more. I know that priority for CPU cycles can be given for foreground or background tasks in WindowsXP (as well as 2K, but who cares about 2K...).

Anyway, so with two cores, would one be better off setting for Background priority? I once remembered reading that if you had a P4 with HT, that a smoother computing experience was achieved by setting it to Background as opposed to foreground because of the "second" virtual processor. Having never used a P4 with HT, I cannot validate this. Obviously one would not want to do this on a single core Athlon unless you are running a server or something, but the X2 brings the question up again.

I still think the os is better at scheduling threads, and that the default priorities are the best choice unless you are doing something unique.
