I'm currently running an X2 3800+ that only uses up 38w (from what I know) and I want to purchase an X2 5600+ 85w processor. Problem is I'm not entirely sure if my PSU is up to the task of a processor that does 85w. Anyone here can take an assumption if it'll handle it? This is the PSU that I'm currently running:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?Item=N82E16817153023

And this is the processor I want to get:

And my current system my PSU is under is in my sig, hopefully this is enough info to give an accurate assumption if my PSU can handle the 5600. thanks for any help.

you're gonna love that upgrade! psu won't have any problems unless you go crazy on a future gpu upgrade.

what do you use the computer for?

Gaming mostly, I'm a huge fan of the unreal games. Have almost all of them UT99, UT2K3, UT2K4, Unreal 2 and dled UT3 Demo. Obviously I'm planning on getting the retail version when it comes out. I wanna have all the juice I can get when the game comes out. hehe :)

You're going to get much more out of a newer GPU imho. You should oc your rig to 2.6-2.8, which should not be much of a problem with that system. Sell your 7900gs and buy a new 8800gt or 2950 series card instead.

Bryan, those EE chips don't overclock well at all, usually 200-300 Mhz on average. Also, it seems like you weren't aware of it, but Unreal Tournament has always been a game that benefitted alot from a faster cpu, much like Oblivion and Supreme Commander. For instance, he'd get a 20 FPS boost with UT2004, just by upgrading from his cpu to a 5600, and a 40 FPS boost, if his current cpu was a P-D 805: link.

Yah, thats why I want to upgrade to the 5600. One of the things I hate about the unreal engines is that they are so cpu sensitive. I don't know to much about the unreal engine 3 but judging from past exps I think its best to go with the processor upgrade. Thanks for the help guys!

My personal opinion is that you should overclock your X2 3800+. You could easily get 2.6Ghz + out of it, essentially making it on par with that 5600+. Some people even ht 3Ghz+ with the AM2 varients.

Seems like you can't go wrong with that upgrade, the price is incredible on the 5600+.
