What is a safe temp range for a X2 4800? What temps are you getting? I get the following at idle from Everest. Rig consist of;

A8V mob
X2 4800 (No oc, stock heat sink and fan, (due to error on installation I had to clean and re-apply thermal compound (Artic Silver 5)
2gb ram
antec p180 case (Top fan blowing in, HDD fan at bottom, front fan middle of case, rear fan blowing out)
ATI AIW X800 XT

temps fine. When I surf the web mine is around 38C and under load around 48C, I also use the stock HSF

BTW I am using a 4200 its a bit lower clocked then you so you temps a normal

I have a few questions. I have almost the same setup as OP except a few components.

1)
My CPU #1 and #2 seem stable @ 35 to 40. But my CPU temp fluctuates greatly reading 2 then instantly changing to 28 and then to 48 and things like that. I find it weird for the temps to change so fast like that. Should I be worried about this? I havent OCed it so I find this real strange, do I need to go buy an aftermarket cooler? Or can I just up the CPU fan RPMs?
Maybe the HSF isn't seated right?

2)
My HD seem to stick to around 45-51 is this too high?

3)
I have my top fan going outward in my p180, did you find any temp drops in changing it to an intake fan?

4)
In speedfan I am geting a remote temp of 57c, what does this mean? How to fix?

Please give some insight, thanks.

At 2.7Ghz, my 4800 usually runs at about 44C idle, 54-55C load.

I am using a Thermalright XP-120 with a 120mm panaflo fan on it.

In Everest, is it normal for the CPU #1 and #2 temps to be stable, but the cpu temp to fluctuate wildly?

I would think that if you switched the top fan to intake then the airflow would be come inside from the top and go straight out your outtake. This would provide less air to the interior of your case where you GPU sits right?

If you really, really want to know what the safe temperatures for your CPU are, visit AMD, pick your model and it'll tell you the (only) truth.

Alternatively, you can look up one of the other 13 threads with the same question - but you'll mainly get opinions from that. ;)
