X2 4800 or 3800

As the topic suggests, should I get the low-end 3800, or the higher-end 4800? I currently have $225 US. I have two main questions to go with this.
1. Does the extra 512KB really matter? I know the Doom 3 engine likes the extra cache.
2. Could I OC to or past the point of the 4800+?

could you please link to the benches with the cache benefiting? i would like to see this. also, from a 3800 i get 2.5GHz at stock V, meaning i could probably go to 2.7-2.8 if i upped the V a bit, which is probably what you are goiing to max out a 4800 at. personally i would go the 3800 and o/c it and put the rest of the money into a gpu.

It's an old article that I can't seem to find. It might only be about the Single-Core Athlon 64 though.

no biggie, i would say that you could make up for the difference in cache with MHz

just get the 3800+ x2 and save money, even if u don't overclock the difference wont be huge, i highly doubt u would even notice the difference unless u time ur encoding or measure the little frame rate diff.

then u can always overclock it, mine does 2.7 on stock voltage, and can do 2.9 with upped vcore, 2.4 is almost guaranteed as long as ur board can overclock.

with the money saved just get a better gfx card.

What other parts do you have in there?
My initial response is to go with the cheaper 3800+ and wait for quad core upgrade.

$22 is not going to go far, better save up a bit more for the 3800 X2 and OC it
