x2 3800 overclock

here is what i got from overclocking my x2 3800+ toledo with my DFI ultra d and stock HSF.

Ur got a lucky chip, crank up the voltage to stock and set it to 2.7ghz and watch it fly.

Just luck, some 3800+ cant make 2.5ghz at 1.5v, some can do 2.7 at stock.

right now i am priming at 2.5Ghz at 1.275V. not even stock voltage yet. stock is 1.3V for this chip. i cant say its stable at this voltage yet because i just started nto too long ago. maybe tomorrow this time i can have some good results. This is still on stock cooler. temps are my concern tho. because my room stays above 70F all the time.

Since you have this really nice chip, you might as well go out and buy a ThermalRight XP90/120, a Scythe Ninja or one of the stock AMD Opteron DC heatsinks. Then get a decent flowing fan and some AS5 and you'll probably be able to hit 2.8 GHz on 1.4-1.45V or so. I haven't seen that too many times, congrats on the luck

With a DFI Lanparty, you can try pushing the HTT to 300 and see if you can get 3 GHz at around 1.5-1.55V. If you can, that'd be just awesome. If it will Prime at 3 GHz, then you can try going for an X2 record (well, not sure about record, but it will definitely be one of the highest X2 3800+ OC's on air). For that, you're gonna need a Scythe Ninja with a high-output Delta fan or something similar.

i have a zalman 7700cu, xp-90c , xp-120 havent had a chance to take the brackets off to put those hsf in.

I am going to be putting it on a MSI mobo that doesnt go beyond 250Mhz and 1.4V. (HTPC nforce430) so if i can get it to go upto 2.5G at less than stock then i am cool with it.

Why? I would use it for the main rig if it DOES go beyond 2.5ghz. Otherwise the HTPC rig would be good (considering the extremely low volatge it is capable of).

That processor does not deserve to waste away in an HTPC...you should put it in your main system since it is obviously a rare and high performing chip; that is, unless you have like an FX60 in your main system...but that's another story

there is some other matx boards that can oc very high

Why is that? I like my X2 at default voltage also (@2.8GHz). I can't stand a noisy PC. Sure, I can run WinXP at over 3GHz, but with elevated voltages...

How is it a waste of processor resource? i can show a screeen shot of what my processor can do, but what i ido with it iis entirely different ballgame. i doubt anyboody who oc'ed their processor to 2.8G+ will ever let it run 24/7 at that speed. Yes this cpu can do 2.8Ghz at some voltage but i am not gonna keep it at that voltage or temp.

Actually, my PC runs 24/7/365 @ 2.8GHz default voltage. DPAD loads both cores 100%... :shrug:

If it can do 2.8/3Ghz @ 1.35/1.4v; there is no risk of damaging the processor--that's the voltage it is rated to run at. You aren't pumping any extra through it.
