I am looking for a good CPU for the buck, and came across these two. They are both Manchestor cores, but the 4200 has 200 more mhz over the 3800. However, the 3800 is 152$ (Newegg) whereas the 4200 is 187$ (Newegg). I was just curious, for the given prices, which would be a better option for me (bang-for-the-buck wise). Thanks.

The X2 3800+ offers more bang for the price, but since they're so cheap it doesn't make much of a difference.

Either one you buy make sure it's an AM2. I would buy the 4200+. If that $20 difference sets you back in any way then you should not even consider upgrading at all.

I actually jumped on the deal with the A8N SLI Deluxe for 37.30$ at MC :). I'm going to have to stick with 939 for the time being, but I actually prefer to be a few generations behind (can't justify spending alot more for something that is only slightly faster).

i'd go for the 4200 if you don't plan to overclock....otherwise save the $30 for a better HSF and get the 3800
