x2 3800 or x2 4200 ?

i'm waiting for the amd price cuts to happen, but im not sure which processor to get..should i get the x2 3800 and overclock? or should i get the x2 4200 and over clock? or should i go higher?

I would personally wait on the Conroe chips from Intel to become available and then purchase one of them.

And I'd go for the 65w X2 3800+, very little premium for it.

depends on your budget, if you can afford higher models go for it, if you can't i would just get the 3800

i really am not looking to completely upgrade my system just my processor (for now at least), but the thing is ive seen alot of people overclock their x2 3800's to match higher x2's and i was thinking to do the same and save money, but what is the chance that i can actually overclock my x2 3800 (if i get one) to at least a x2 4600-4800 level? or maybe even higher than that?

what is the average OC on a x2 3800?

I think you'll get at laest 2.4ghz outta a lower overclocking 3800+, but more than likely you can get to around 2.6-2.8ghz outta it.

yea but would paying the extra 40-60 dollars be benificial. Sure you can overclock your 3800 to 4200 or 4400 speeds, but what can you overclock a 4200 or 4400 to.

i was reading the review of an x2 4400+ on newegg and most people only got the processor to 2.4ghz - 2.5ghz....but does the 4400 overclock better than that?

Yep, thats what I would do. The 3800+ generaly gets similar overclocks as the higher clocked chips. The ones with the larger cache(4400 and 4800) seem to get slightly lower overclocks.
