I'm trying to do a mild overclock from 2 GHz to 2.2 by increasing the fsb.
I can't get it to go any higher than the stock speed. As you can tell I'm fairly
new to overclocking. Here is what I have:
An MSI K8N NEO2 F motherboard, a Thermaltake Armor VA8000B case with
a Thermaltake 460 watt PurePower psu. I'm using the stock cooler with the
X2 3800 and my idle temp is 29 to 33c and load ( 2 loops of 3DMARK 05 )
is 48c or so. I have 2 gig of Corseair Xms 3200 ram and a Radeon X850XT card.
Can someone who knows this board and bios please give some tips on what to set
things at so I can safely experiment a bit. I had success oc'ing a 3500 with my last
setup using just the fbs without messing with voltage and HT multiplyers and
whatnot. What I get is either no signal to the monitor or lockup before windows loads or
lockup during the boot screen. It dosent seem to be a heat issue so I'm
thinking that I need to fiddle with voltage or something else.

1.To test your load and stability, use two instances of prime95, NOT 3DMARK.

2. Best way to learn about overclocking are reading the guides. It's almost impossible for someone to just tell you every single setting if you yourself don't know what they are and the fact that every cpu is not exactly alike. Look at the sticky in the top of this forum for the guide and try using google.

You *have* to turn down your HT and RAM multipliers if you want to OC your CPU. At the default values, and your FSB at 220, your HT will be 1100MHz and your RAM will need to operate at DDR440.

Just a quick note... you stated you have 2 GIGs of RAM. If you are using 4 X 512 you are just looking for trouble. If you are using just 2 X 1 GIG then disregard this reply (unless you are not placing the sticks in the rigth slots). Just thought I would add this as I have that exact board with a 6800GT, 560Watt Antec PS... 2 X 1 GIG RAM and I running either 10x2450 or 9X275 and it works just fine. You must reduce your HTT to try and stay as close to 1000 or under it. Also check your ram divider.

BTW I keep my volatge at "up 3%" which I am still not sure how much more exactly that is. I was wondering if it's better to set it at say up 3% or up 5% or actually choose a voltage number.
