X2 3800+ 52C under load. Problem?

Two instances of Superpi with affinity set to separate cores. Both cores 100%

With my cooling, shouldn't these temps be a little lower? 27C room temp.
 
It might be your RAM. What SuperPi test were you running? btw, you should switch to Orthos for a dual-core processor. It's a very nice program.

Also, to isolate your RAM as a possible cause of your troubles, set it to some slow setting like 2:1 ratio, 3-3-3-8 2T and then raise FSB after that.

Thanks for the reply !! 🙂. I actually ended up doing exactly what you suggested. I dropped it 3-3-3-8 to isolate it as the problem. Which it was.

My ram is rated at 2.75V, I had it under @ 2.6.

Bumped to 2.70v 2-3-3-5 @ DDR440 1:1

Problem I am having now is merely a heat issue with my X2 3800+. 52C @ 100% on both cores with two instances of SuperPi. I really think I need to reseat the Typhoon (copper wrecking ball) or get a AC 64 Pro.

I'd really like to reach 2.5 on Air 50C max @ load.
 
Your RAM requires 2.5-3-3-8 timings and 2.80v, to be able to run @ 250 Mhz. Also, your Big Typhoon is much better than an AC Freezer 64 Pro; you just need to tighten it down farther. Also, what vcore are you using?
 
27C room temp is pretty warm, and internal case temps will always get a few more degrees higher, so it's not that far off of being normal, especially when running a demanding test? Maybe could have been about 3-4C lower, but then again, the thermal diode's are never completely accurate.

I'm using 1.31 vcore currently. I tried a run @ 3-3-3-8 1.31vcore @ 2.3ghz

Froze almost instantly after SuperPi

I'm starting to agree with you. My ambient @ 27C and a CPU running at 31-32C idle may not be something to worry about. I just need to get my damn load temps down 🙁
 
man that sucks, you can't get past 2.2ghz and your temps are that hot? with my freezer 64 pro and my x2 3800 toledo oc'ed to 2.4ghz i was getting high 50's, pretty hot i think, but the maxtcase for that chip was like 63 C or something so it didn't bother me too much when it hardly ever touched 60 after hours and hours of prime 95.
 
52c is not bad with your room temps, dual cores always run a little hotter.

As long as you don't have to up the vcore, the temps won't go up much as you continue to increase the speed. I would go on up to 2.4/2.5 and check your temps there.

Improving your case airflow by cleaning up your cables and/or adding case fans will always help, and remember once the thermal compound sets your temps will drop 2-3c

As long as your load temps stay in the 50's your fine IMHO

Damn Phoenix Arizona 🙂. Superpi refuses run past 2.2ghz even with the 3-3-3-8.

Vcore = 1.375v
230x10 or 225x10
Ram @ 2.7v 1:1 3-3-3-8
LDT multi set low to 3 to figure out sweet spot for CPU

Windows boots and temp is good @ idle. Freezes after a couple seconds of SuperPi

Rock solid @ 2.2 Ghz 2-3-3-5 1.35v Vcore

 
Use a memory divider don't let ram stop your O/C, memory speed is much less important than CPU speed. No way your CPU is topping out at 2.2ghz. Set the memory to 166/DDR333 and try 240x10 that should run your memory at stock DDR400 so use stock timings and ddr volts.

And I here ya on the temps, I live in Texas and always have to fight the ambient temps.

Tried this. It didn't work. I am convinced it isn't the ram. I think my CPU sucks. I tried booting into windows @ 1.35 vcore @ 2.3Ghz. No happening. When I bumped the vcore to 1.4, it booted windows, but froze during superpi.

I think I am just stuck @ 2.2. Damn all that OC gear and people are getting 2.5 on a dell?

2.2 runs superpi over and over no problem. Memtest ran no problem.


Any other suggestions? I am at a loss now. I don't really want to feed that CPU any more juice.
