X1950XTX Final Sample

Looks defitnately tempting. But i think they overdone the aerodynamic look 🙂

Im interested in what GDDR4 brings to the table (however, they are using 256bit GDDR4 at 2GHz) and how the cooler will pan out.

Man this Card reminds of me of the panther Tank 🙂

Its quiet , more cool , has a beasty performance and is able to take out Tiger X1900XTX.

It looks good, I just hope it's quiet. Also I hope ATi has had a die shrink for better power characteristics.

The cooler looks cool but I'm not so sure about it, a small plastic fan isn't exactly in my definition of a quiet cooler but from that angle I can see alot of copper, 2 low copper heatsinks and a section of what looks like a heatpipe, alot of copper would vouch well for quiet but without taking off the plastic hood its tough to tell.

alot of copper could be expensive ? it looks like a very large heatsink in there witht he heatpipes too... fan could be better but its not bad (i liked the x800xt fans)

this thing should be a beast, but expensive, will sweep the high end market until G80

I won't probably buy this for a generation or two, but I whole-heartedly agree...

good card, but hooked up VGA?

CRT forever!

Yup. The best gamers all use CRTs. LCDs are getting close but it cannot surpass a good CRT in image quality/black, and resolution scaling.

I'm still hooked up to my 19" Dell/Sony Trinitron from god knows when.

go to a competitive gaming event like the CPL and all the best gamers use CRTs. These are people that will shave 10 lbs by buying Antec Superlanboy cases.. Why do they stick with 50lb CRTS? Because lcds screw up their competitive advantage.

while i admit that CRT's are better at resolution scaling than LCD's, and that their color tone/range is more "natural" and "true", i have a hard time believing that it will truly affect a gamer's performance

of course, perception is reality... so if you are more comfortable staring at a CRT and believe you can game more effectively on one, then that mental boost can certainly affect your gameplay

in a controlled experiment, however, i don't honestly think you'd find a performance gain using a high-quality CRT vs. a high-quality LCD

Except the resolution 95% of pro gamers use on the CPL tour is 800x600 and there is a difference between a good CRT at 800x600 and a good lcd with native resolutino 1280x1024 at 800x600.

I'm guessing this way there would be no frame-rate issues.

maybe its easier to spot things when they're big blocks moving around. they also lower texture detail to where its a blurry mess 😛

Highest framerate possible so they dont "miss" a frame

800x600 means that on matter what, the framerates will stay above the refresh rate so the action is smooth.

Wel lthey dont use textures per se. They use lightmodels or something(forgot what its called) that strips off lighting and textures off of character models and makes it a moving animated colored mass. That way the Blue and Red body shaped moving things are easier to distinguish from the background.
