X1950XT overheating like crazy

I have my X1950XT running at 2D speeds (500/1200, 1.2V) right now, and it maxes out at about 85C. It's the 256MB Sapphire with stock cooler. At stock 3D speeds (625/1800, 1.425V), I hit up to 105C, and it usually crashes around then. My ambient case temp is only 35C, and my CPU (single core A64) is at 32C with a Freezer. Airflow in my case is decent; my front 120mm intake fan blows air right at the X1950XT with only a couple hard drives in the way. I'm running the fan at ONE HUNDRED PERCENT speed right now. I don't mind the noise, but at this speed, shouldn't it be cooling my card enough? I'm using ATI Tray Tools and not CCC, so no Overdrive overclocking or anything. I don't think it was always this hot. I just noticed when I started playing Unreal Tournament 3. But now when I play older games like Madden, it still overheats. What's wrong here?

Yes, it should be running much cooler than that at 100%. If you have had the card for a while, try cleaning out the heatsink. It gets filled up with dust pretty quickly.

hey i own that card, unscrew the heatsink, cooler - 8 screws. take a can of that duster shit and blow the dust out of the sink, fan and all. while your at it, clean out the pc case as well with the duster can. wipe off the thermal compound from die/sink and reseat with artic silver 5. I had to hold the heatsink in my hand and blow into the exhaust with the duster, and blow coujlds of dust out the window. when i reseated it, my cysis temps with the fan at 100 percent went form 93cel to 60 cel, and i was able to get 705mhz on the core instead of 654

making it clean, and well seated with artic silver, will make all the difference in the world.

Okay, I'll try getting some AS5 and reseating it. Hopefully that should help. I just dusted out my case a couple weeks ago, but I didn't do anything about the video card HSF.

How fast is the fan running when you're gaming?

Just to test see if it's just the fan, run it at 100% and fire up a game. Record the max temp.

So you're getting those high temps with the card at 100%?

If so, something is def wrong.

Yeah, I'm going to try cleaning and reseating the HSF once I get my hands on some AS5 and some free time.
